duplicate content mystery

Hi all, I have a quick question and I will be very grateful for any answers that could clarify this.
I've just read the Google policy on duplicate content and they don't like full stop, they will stop indexing any pages they find with duplicate content. This is a major cause of concern for me, as I am planning to launch my website in other English speaking countries and obviously I would like to use the same articles on all of them.
I want them all to be indexed too. If it's not possible, fair enough, I'll have to buy myself a synonimouses dictionary and re-write them, I supose.

BUT: How is it possible for other sites, such as babycenter.com?
The UK, Candian and Australian websites share EXACTLY the same articles on all three websites.
    :confused::confused::confused:
Any ideas how this has come to be alright and all of them are indexed with google?
    Thanks a lot

They might remove some of those sites pages also. Just write unique artciles on each one and you will be fine.

Try to limit duplicate articles on your sites. You may just use cross reference links among your websites to refer to the content you need. It won't steer your visitors since they will be transfering between websites that belong to you.

well, I thought about this, but I'd like to target visitors geographically, for advertising reasons. I wouldn't like my UK website to rank high with US visitors, coz it would spoil my media kit - audience composition etc.
It looks like I have to rewrite them, this s*cks big time:mad:

What sucks when it comes to free advertising???

Seriously you do have to put effort into anything you do, to reap a reward...too many online have this expectation of free riches with Google and that they won't need to work LOL

I would think the wording in each country is different and this alone would make you want to write for each person as opposed to one jumbo site fits all.

The other alternative is to pay for advertising, and then you need never worry if a search engine is tossing out free meals.

Well, thanks for that, I wrote 203 articles x 900 words each in 2 months and you call this "no effort". Yeah, OK, I'll write articles 17 hours a day and go to a 2 hours evening class for Indian, Chinese and Icelantic language to be able to translate them, too, so I don't get called "freea adevertising seeker". Would I earn my pence then in your opinion?
or better, I visit your site and see how I can "reep a reward" with no effort following your ways

Well you said you had to rewrite the articles and that it sucks so you set the tone of the conversation as to imply having to work was a bad thing....you even went so far as to make an angry face about the fact.

One thing I am not is a mind reader....no way of knowing what you have done in the past....

I go by what I read.....

Listen I am not giving you a hard way to go.

What I am trying to do is enlighten you as to how one would build a business.

First of all why would you write 203 articles in 60 days?

    Are you a publisher??

If you wrote and published 203 articles to a site which sells custom t shirts or spare motorcycle parts for example, then this would likely indicate to the Google search engine you are trying to obtain rankings..... as most custom t shirt sites nor spare motorcycle parts retailers, do not write 3.38 articles a day.

Now if you are a large scale publisher then this amount would be acceptable perhaps even a bit low.

Now to answer your questions regarding Google & Duplicate Content.

There are two types of Duplicate Content to be considered in the discussion.

    1. Duplicate Content between two or more websites, not owned by the same individual or business.

    2. Duplicate Content 'within' your own website.

For # 1 there is what is known as Original Date of Inception. Which Google uses to filter out other dupilicate versions, so that typically it would not rank above the original citation.

As for duplicate content 'within' a website #2 above this is expected by the search engines as often pages will be template like for the most part.

As far as writing it in different languages then it is not considered duplicate content as the words would be completely unique within each language.

Where you might find an issue is between UK English and American English for example....

Hope it helps and not everything written is meant as it might sound ;)

    Peace!
