making all the content original will give you the best results. you can however take ideas from other sites and write it with your expression
Yes, grabbing it directly from your website would result in a duplicate content issue. Unless of course you expand on what you're grabbing. For example, don't make a page with just the content your grabbing. Add your own content to that page as well.
Or run it thru a content deduper before you publish it. Be aware that even if you dedupe it, if someone decides to sue your ass, and can show that all you have done is create a 'derivative' work, you may have problems.
