I have moved my blog from wordpress.com to blogger.com because of less features and limited access. Now i have two blogs with the same content. The thing that i m scared of is the duplicate content issue. I am little confused what to do now? Difficulties that i m facing are: 1) Can not do 301 redirect, as i dont have access in .htaccess file in wordpress.com. 2) Can not remove old content from google cache due to not having webmaster tool account for blog of wordpress.com Is there any other solution for this problem..
The first thing i would say is why would you move your blog from wordpress ? It has far better widgets and themes and makes blogging a breeze....
I can not make any changes in the source code of wordpress.com blogs. How can i customize it and add widgets to it. Neither can install plugins nor can add google analytics code and webmaster tool code. It is a blog of wordpress.com not the blog hosted in my personal domain. If there any way pls suggest me.
Here is how you add google analytics to the wordpress blogs: http://andywibbels.com/2007/01/how-to-add-google-analytics-to-your-wordpress-blog
It should not be an issue, just put links of your new blogger blog in wordpress blog, add recent blogger feed to sidebar of wp blog. If you have individual posts you can manually add new links at footer. I was in same situation as you are some time ago when i created a wordpress blog.
If you have access to the SQL, you can do this in wordpress...perhaps do it before moving? http://www.giantrobot.co.nz/node/81
Guys, Hope you all are well aware with wordpress.com blog and the personal wordpress blog. And pls dont make me sick first understand the thread better.
This works if you have your own domain and you had installed wordpress on that. You can add plugins if you have your own domain. If you are making a free blog in wordpress.com you can'tadd more plugins there. If you have access to the SQL, you can do this in wordpress...perhaps do it before moving? Code (markup): Wordpress.com gives limited access to you when you host a free blog in wordpress.com,so there will be no access to mike for the SQL database. Sorry mike even i don't know how to insert the Google analytics code there in a wordpress blog. I am also looking for same thing. Hope we will get a solution here. Let me know if you got some solution regarding this. Jimmy
Don't worry about duplicate content! It only exists on the same domain, trust me on this.. I use other people's content all the time (with permission) and outrank them, even though they wrote it first, and it's still on their site! (you all owe me a beer)
Well I would have removed the content from the old site and placed a big fatty link to the new site ...Thats all BTW : Meta refresh can help
