I have noticed my site is coming up with the same url twice for the same term - It is not 2 seperate domains, no tricks, just a plain html page. I have not often seen this kind of error in G. Any ideas why this is happening ?
Same exact url? Does it occupy two consecutive spots? Or is it: http://yoursite.com ___http://wwwyoursite.com Have you changed servers lately or anything?
Exact same url, same highlighted terms in the description, position 10 and 16 or something. Domain transfer - yes - I emailed my host today, but I doubt they have done anything yet.
The index is a mess. I have seen triple pages today. Same page 1-2-3 on the index. The worst part it was a total spam page made with traffic equalizer. Really, Bill Gates must be laughing his ass off. They go on a ski trip, he rolls out the MSN beta the same week onto the full network and when they start with another big update, MSN bring out the big guns and starts the superbowl ad campaign. Talk about caught with your pants down. TWICE!
I often see www.sandra.com and www.sandra.com/index.shtml as two Top #10 results in Google for my keywords. I don't know why they list the site twice, maybe it's an error because of the .shtml file?!
Spot on, but I hope G finds a good way to fight back, its the long term thats going to hurt them. I dont want MS OS + MS search with a monopoly..
Chrissicom, it's normal to see those two URL versions of your home page. That's because Google tracks URLs based upon the links it finds. Internal links will use the version with index.shtml. External links to your home page will typically use the domain name only, which loads default home page. That type of duplication should not be a problem, because all sites experience that.
