There are two ways to get to my Website and I am concerned that I will get slammed with a duplicate site/content penalty. One way of getting to my site is through the domain name: www(dot)mysite(dot)com You can also get to my site through the host: www(dot)myhost(dot)com/mysite/index(dot)html These are both the same site, using the same IP. Do you think I will get penalized for this? If so, what should I do?
why does your hosting company allow access to your site that way? Its not too much to worry about..get all your links to mysite.com and make sure all your internal links contain the full url. to link to your privacy page use mysite.com/privacy.html instead of just /mysite.html which is what dreamweaver does by default.
I am not sure I just know that if I type in either of those 2 types of URLs I can pull up the site. Thanks for your input.
I wouldn't be to concerned with it, if you keep up to date with the SEO biz like with Matt cutts, and here at DP. You will see that duped content is not as big of a deal as it used to be, otherwise every person would be duping by using the word (THE) heheh seriously though its not a big deal really, just make sure you don't copy a bunch of articles and stick your name on them.
It seems to me that Matt Cutts likes to make examples of duplicate content and other types of spam. Maybe I am wrong though.
Why don't you just put rewrite www(dot)myhost(dot)com/mysite to www(dot)mysite(dot)com Just google for mod_rewrite or ask in the correct forum on DP. Its really easy.
