Hello I want to know if i write completely unique content in my site but my site has this unique content twice each time and sitewide ( for the footer section) will i get penalized for this? thanks
If the MAIN content of your page differs completely, don't worry. How a footer can have a canonical url is new to me, enlighten me, will you?
I think an official answer will help everyone; More: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html
Thanks for your answers guys What i ask is different My content is unique But each article appears in two pages in my site will this penalize my site?
I've been wondering the same thing. There are some pages on my sites that can be accessed using two different URLs. One URL for the main content itself, and possible other URLs for category-specific entry points. I've made sure that each page uses a canonical meta element which always points to the non-category-specific URL, but I'm still worried because even though I'm using this canonical meta element Google Webmaster Tools diagnostics still points out occasional duplicate meta descriptions for these canonicalized pages.
Cynia to answer your question; NO. Google wont penalize for duplicate content anyway fast, only perhaps if the whole site is copied from someone else. But for the rest, no. Lots of bloggers copy from other sites, they aren't getting penalized.
Duplicate content doesn’t cause site to be penalized It would lower the page rank as pages are split among the various versions.
wrong.. Google is penalizing sites with duplicate contents.. autoblogs, blogs made to sell blogposts etc.. some of them actually gets banned...
Sites are not banned because of duplicate content, they get banned because the webmaster is doing stupid things. Certain searches on gooogle will give the same thing over and over. There is no penalty for duplicate content. Google handles dynamic urls just fine and dandy as well. Think about it people, ezinearticles is full of duplicate content and they encourage people to publish their duplicate content. Google will choose whichever page they feel is the better source. Most of the times it's the first and most authoritative site with it. If you stash your site with nothing but copied EZA articles, or stuff it full of the same thing, over and over, you are not penalized because of duplicate content. You get penalized for doing stupid stuff that makes your website not worth visiting. "Not worth visiting" is not a penalty. It means there are just more sites than yours that deserve top billing. OK Stephen thats your own interpretation, now interpret these banned sites http://www.getpaidtoblog.info/ http://www.optimizeyoursite.info/ http://malaysialimo.info/limoservices/ Can you see the common denominator?
If you have a LOT of duplicate content which is sitewide, then you should consider creating a new page for the content, like you would do for a TOS page or whatever. But if we are talking about a small snippet of text, it won't be an issue.
I think site will not penalize by Google. Because Google is smart to know which content is duplicate or not.
If Google bot crawls your site and keeps encountering the identical content on different pages each time, it may realize there is no need to crawl that many pages. I don't think your issue can be cause of penalization but it may lead to some indexing problems in some time.
