    Guys

If you have 2 websites and both targeting almost same niche. What will happen if you have similar (duplicate) posts on both the sites ? How does it effect the ranking etc in search engines.

google will identify which site have the original content and possibly penalize the other site that has duplicate content or remove it from indexing

Agreed!!! Duplicate content is not good even if both sites are yours. If one of the sites gets penalized for duplicate content it can take you quite a bit to recover and have Google consider it once again for indexing. My husband had to help someone whose site was accused of duplicate content and it took a lot of work, long hours and extra dedication to get the poor fellows site indexed again. And that is just indexed...

You'll have to change one of the articles in order so that it would be unique. (you can leave some sentences as they are as long as you change some words in them. But the majority of the sentences would have to be completely rewritten)
    The sooner the better ;)

Not anymore. Not since caffeine. They have been de-indexing sites with duplicate content for a few months now. Mostly they are de-indexing syndicated content though, to reduce the number of pages indexed by 'made for advertising' adsense type site that have nothing but content syndicated through RSS.
