If you submit articles... I know that Google will slap you (or worse) if you have duplicate content on say like Web 2.0 properties, Article Submission Sites, etc. However, I see news content with the same article posted by different news sites by the dozens. So why don't they get slapped? So, does Google really slap you for duplicate content? If so, then why don't these news sites get slapped for having duplicate articles?
What do you mean slapped? I see duplicate articles indexed all the time. If you put a paragraf of PLR article on Google search, you'll see them all.
I don't really believe google intentionally slaps you if you have duplicate content. I think it is more about when the original content is indexed first, and how reputable the site is in the first place. If you're a news site like cnn, you've got a ton of backlinks that pretty much says that you're a reputable source, so even if you do have duplicate content you'll show up. People say content is king. But that's just half true. Content and Backlinks are king. lastly, I know pretty recently that Matt Cutts from Google, cleared the misconception of duplicate content. Do a search for it on google and i'm sure you'll find it. Hope that helps.
Google doesnt slap you, they just wont rank the dup content if they find it, and why should they? Just use rel="canonical" on your dup content and you won't need to worry much. Produce unique content, you will have to worry less.
Google already announced (recently) that they do not penalize in any way for duplicate content. You're not getting slapped by anyone, you're simply not understanding how things work.
I think it's not so much a penalty as a filter. google does not awant to show the same thing multiple times. So if their are a number fo pages all with the same text Google will just pick one of them.
Wrong, they will rank it, sometimes even higher than yours. This is whats suck about it. This is straight from the horses mouth (allegedly) http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2009/09/24/content-scrapers-not-a-big-deal And the only recourse you have if the thieves rank higher than you is DMCA, what a bummer.
News agency are white list in Google as well as some top article sites like Ezinearticle, isnare and many more. Just look at its PR and if the sites is PR 5 and up, for sure they are under Google white list. If you post article in your site early then you publish it with Ezine, then you will be penalize.
You are right. It happens when you a low credible website. Credibility is counted as PR, domain age and reputation. For instance, if Yahoo news steals your content you will be penalized and not yahoo.
