I know that Google doesn't include pictures in ranking sites. No way they can tell what is in them (other than keywords in flash) but can they determine if I'm using the same images on different pages. I do that sometimes but just to be safe, I rename them. I think changing the names would even change CRC? I don't think they consider this duplicate content, it's the words on the page the pictures are on that matters and the picture itself doesn't matter at all but I'm curious and I could be wrong. Thoughts please?
well till today there is no way Google can identify an image. you can safely put same image on thousand places by just changing its name in its url. But Google has submitted a patent about an algo which LOOKS INSIDE the image.
I wouldn't worry about it. Just think of how many large/corporate sites have a sitewide logo or two? I doubt Yahoo will be thrown into the supplemental results because they have the Yahoo banner at the top of each page.
I didn't say I was using same pictures in every page. I do have a personal blog and then I have two blogs on closely related travel destination subject. I often post the pictures as I take them on one blog as I take them with a lot of narrative around them. Tell the story of the pictures. I also post them on my personal blog, with much less content grouped by month. I just thought of a problem though. I'm using LightRoom and it's adding flash metadata which Google does index and the metadata is the same. Perhaps I should start making those pages noindex. Grrrr. That is the monthly gallery. I post only a small fraction on my travel site though. Even though my intention for the pictures are vastly different based on each site, The outcome may be duplicate content. I could remove the metadata on one of my sites. It wouldn't be hard to do. Thoughts please?
