If you submit an article to an article site, ie. www.ezinearticles.com does your page receive dup, content penalty because it is now on your site and that site? Or do article sites not index their articles?

I submit my articles to 10 articles sites each time, I've picked up several links and get better serps. I do vary my anchor text a bit, If there is a dup penalty on articles the benefits out weigh the penalty in my opinion.

The general thoughts from those of us who are experienced seem to be:

    1. Try not to submit the same article exactly as it appears on your website.
    2. If you do, wait until it gets indexed first.
    3. No dupe penalty is noticed--looks like first copy indexed gets credit as original--all rest underneath.
    4. Best case scenario--write articles for the sole purpose of content marketing and don't use on your own website(s).

I never submit the same article that appears on the site. I usually write a completely different article or majorly modify an existing one.

I thought I read in a previous post that the first article that Google indexes gets "x"PR and the second one that is indexed by Google gets "x-y"PR (y<x).

They didn't use the same equations that I did, but maybe Google indexes the first article as the "original" article and the other one as copies....

I dont trust google to figure out which is the original and which is a copy. Better safe than sorry.

marketjunction gave good advice. how should G always know what the original article was? if you publish your article on your page and it is not indexed often and you put the article on another site which is indexed often your own page probably will be regarded as double content...

Exactly. You never know which article Google will credit as the original. Always modify the article you submit to the directories...

Google won't pick up but probably 5-8% of the other articles to begin with. MSN will get strong pick up and Yahoo will probably slurp the most.

Reworking your articles for submission is so easy, everyone should be doing it anyway.
