I tried typing in link:the website address but it didn't work for me. I use the SEObook toolbar and that gives me yahoo and things like that but I just want to know how many google backlinks it will list. I know that it's not the exact number because they don't give out all of that information, but not long ago I could still check on the few that they do list, so I was curious, thanks.
When you perform the link: - you shouldn't type in the whole URL. Simply type it in without the WWW. Even if you see them, you won't see them all. You'll just see a few. Use Google Webmaster Tools?
It shows such a low percentage that it is not worth the effort. I would have to call it totally random information.
To check how many backlinks you have i suggest these tools Back Link Watch - Backlinks Checker Yahoo site explorer Google's webmaster tool panel Check Page Rank - Check Domain Info Domain Attribute - Domain Info Checker If you get contradicting results from the above tools the best bet would be to lean towards Google's webmaster panel results
Or, just use google analytics to track where your traffic is coming from. Granted, you're not going to get traffic from every link - but it gives you a pretty good idea where the "best" ones are.
I figured rather than starting a new thread I'd bump this here because I am interested in how to check my google backlinks witht he google toolbar, thanks.
Nevermind, I was doing it right but apparently google changed their protocol so that I have no links showing anymore, I used to have like 20 or so is why I mention that the last time I checked at least. I really don't understand the point of having backlink checker as part of the tool for if it doesn't show links for 90 some percent of the smaller websites out there.
