Any new home desiring an Energy Star designation, after January 1, 2012, requires a duct leakage testing. This essentially mandates duct leakage testing for all 50 states. Over the last decade or so, there have been an average of 1,000,000 new homes built each year in the US alone with ducted air conditioning systems. With at least 15-20 registers per house, that’s an enormous waste of resources, time, and money. Anyone who’s used tape would cringe at the thought of applying sticky, cumbersome tape to 15,000,000 registers. Assuming each was 1′ long, and the tape was applied perfectly with no waste (ha!) that would be +/- 3,000 miles of plastic tape, a first use petroleum product, needlessly thrown away each year. The waste is only compounded when viewed by the time wasted due to the tape’s cumbersome nature. Vent Cap Systems is proud of its contribution to cut this ridiculous waste.
