If you read very much on the Internet about SEO, sooner or later you will hear more than a handful of SEO experts recommend using the KEI formula to choose keywords for your website.

    I disagree.

I have just posted my analysis of this at my blog:

Please feel free to respond to these posts here or at my blog...or better yet at both places!

Wow, your article really makes a lot of sense. Teaches us not to try and use tricks and special techniques but do the same old seo.

But, the confusion is that so many people telling so many different things that my mind is getting puzzled about what to do.

Yup. And especially in an industry where the knowledge base and even the rules change so rapidly, one must be very careful about what one reads. I am certain there is nobody who has not been duped at some point in some way.

I think the thing about stats is to use them only as guidelines anyway. Whewn one can test, that woks best. When one can't common sense sure helps.

so, do you think that it is okay if we dont use any sort of keyword finding tools and just think about what people want and are searching for.
Umm, this seems okay to me.

I would say don't have blind faith on tools such as wordtracker and etc. but choose keywords which you think will customers use to find out your site, research keywords manually and through tools also(these tools will still help you).Don't get confused as u know what are the best keywords for ur site.
have a combination of all these.

    Best of luck !

Tools like WordTracker and KeywordDiscovery (my preference) can help you find what terms people are searching for.

For instance, in one sector the word "jobs" might be much more searched-for than "employment" or "careers", but in another sector, "careers" might be a more important search term. That's what these tools are for.

But using any formula that distorts the playing field by including the masses of websites on Google's roster that are not in the game would be a mistake. The key is to understand the players that are toughest to beat. In a race, that's all that matters.

    That's correct.

Many times, It has happened that different tools show different number of searches and different number of competing sites. Why do you think that happens?
