I am buying HP Pavilion laptop with 1GB RAM and
It comes with pre installed Window Vista OS.
But i want to use Linux free BSB may be Fedora6 and Windows XP as OS.
I need both don't ask me why? I am sure about that.
I want to know whats the write way to do that from anyone who have used both Linux and Windows.

As I think i need to clean up my hard drive then install Windows XP and create a new partition of 20GB and install Linux on that.
    is it the right way?
    If not please guide me.

I have never installed Fedora, but I have used win and linux since some years ago (slackware, debian, ubuntu). I recommend you just download the distro cd or dvd and boot the laptop directly from it. You can create the new partition in an installation steep, and also the process will create you an OS selector (I think that fedora will install grub), and you will select when boot if you want to boot from your fedora or your vista..

    Good luck

    Thanks dannet ,
I don't want to keep vista. I need windows XP and any linux version.
As i am used to windows OS and dont know much about linux.
But for my development projects i want to work with linux.
That why i need dual OS.
So i want to know the exact procedure to follow.
Like how to uninstall vista, then whether to install XP first or linux and which version of linux will be good for beginner or someone like me who is used to windows.

Well to uninstall vista you can just format, the next steep will be to install XP (if you install linux and after windows, win will be erase your linux boot info). If you dont have experience with linux I recommend you ubuntu (or kubuntu if do you like kde), its based on debian, and has a nice interface, good performance and a big community, you can check ubuntuforums.com..

    Good luck

Check the official website for the specific distribution. Go to linux.org and search for Fedora's website, it will give you the instructions on how to setup dual booting. It's something I'm learning as well :)

there are three way to do it

    1) there is a program call "partition magic" (there are similar program that do the same thing but you need to search for them). You can create partition from a windows partition without format it. You can then install linux in the new partition

    2) run it from a live CD, that's the easiest way

    3) try http://www.vmware.com/, that a virtual machine for windows
