Drupal vs Wordpress

I've used wordpress for nearly all my sites but today I installed Drupal and I'm blown away... Drupal seems like wordpress on steroids...

What about you guys? Any experiences on comparing the two?

 

What are some striking differences?

 

Both are good but wordpress has a lot of plugins and easy to configure unlike drupal. For basic blog, I'll go for wordpress but for application (community sites, fan site, etc), I'll for drupal. Also from my experience drupal is good for SEO .

 

I have used both drupal and wordpress. If you are looking for simplicity you should go with wordpress. If you need a more heavy duty feature rich site then drupal is the way to go. Both are great in terms of seo, and have awesome modules and plugins. The forum in my sig is built using drupal, pathauto is a great module i highly recommend it!

 

yes as scuba said, for only blogging purpose, use wordpress but if you are looking for a powerful website than go for drupal. CHeck drupal.org as they have a HUGE discussion about wordpress vs drupal

 

erm..all my blog using a wordpress and i got one blog in drupal..to be honest i got no idea on how to used it. Maybe i need to check on drupal.org just like poseidon suggested.

 

Personally I like more WordPress.
Drupal is also a nice CMS but I just don't like it too much.

 

I was in your boat awhile ago, used WordPress all the time then discovered Drupal and I think "WordPress on steroids" was my initial thought as well. Now I'm a Drupal fanatic and I'm never looking back

Drupal can do everything WordPress can, and can do it better. Not only that but Drupal can do a lot of things WordPress can't, has a better mod community and can handle larger sites better. Drupal's learning curve is pretty steep but if you're willing to invest the time to learn the software you'll be able to reap its wonderful benefits.

 

I did try to install them at one of my site couple of years ago. But things just don't work as I thought it would have been. Personally I found wordpress easy to use and modified. I used them for most of my web sites.

I'm thinking of Joomla - but it's just too complicated to me.

 

Agreed, I find wordpress much easier to work with, its why I use it on most of my websites.

 

same here. I dabbled in joomla and drupal a while ago but you've got to see drupal v5.x to see how good it has become. They've really taken a leaf out of wordpress' books and made it much simpler to administer.

 

I might have to check out Drupal, then. Anything that's similar to Wordpress has to be great

 

The Drupal is give you more blog. It's communities with management.
I chose Wordpress for blog only and I use Drupal for communities site.

 

I've used drupal in the past and I have to say it was wonderful, but today I'm using wordpress because.... I don't know exactly why.. but is more faster and confortable for me using wp nowadays.

 

Yes, Drupal is exciting technology. But it takes a lot of time to learn, and some of the concepts are hard to understand.

If you want to be at dinner in time WORDPRESS ist the much better choice.

In terms of true CMS I still prefer phpwebsite versus Drupal

Drupal is much much easier to understand now than when I first encountered it. The best thing is that it comes instantly integrated with a photo gallery, a forum, and a blog - exactly what I was looking for !

 

I use Wordpress as it's a lot easier for my to understand Plus, my sites are just content based sites with allowing user comments... it makes sense i use WP if I know how to drive it!

 

I use WordPress, but I am very interested in learning more about Drupal. I am a big WordPress fan. I use it for both my blogs.

I keep hearing people talking about it but have never tried it. I am not worried about Drupal's learning curve for myself the webmaster, but I am concerned about it in regards to my clients, who are often not technically savy at all. Has anyone here ever developed a site using Drupal as a back-end and turned it over to a client? How'd that go?

 

the thing is WordPress is not just a blogging tool...you can do so much more with WP..it can be a full-blown content management system with the right plugins..so why learn something else if you don't have to?

Wordpress is for blogging.. and suitable for blogging only.. not in the future but now at least.. and even if you put tons of it's plugin you'll never be able to make this http://information.dk/ or this http://www.theonion.com/content/index .

Drupal is a Content Management System, it's a system for managing content and providing it in various formats, used mainly for websites. And what are the example of websites? Web blogs, news sites, porn sites, community sites, e-commerce site. Surely it can create blog. And like Brilliance experience it can create a blog on steroids.

But comparing those two are like comparing an API and a function. They don't compare.
