I think you at least have to make a good looking theme for the site. The standard drupal theme really blows. It's one of the things that holds it back.
Hello, You should now be able to post in the forums. We would appreciate all opinions regarding design and layout of themes. We have also printed a list of elements that will be styled with each theme. It would be good to know if we have included all the basics. Any ideas are more than welcome. Paul
Hi Hon Daddy Dad, We are putting the finishing touches to our sites design and should have the sites theme up soon. Looking forward, is there a particular layout/design you would like to see? Paul
GPL doesn't mean you have to release it for free, it means that you can't hide your code or make it proprietory read the numerious posts on joomla about this.
I think that's right - if its GPL you can sell it but you have to make the code available. However, many themes are released under creative commons attribute licenses which may or may not have a not for commercial purposes clause attached. In this case you cannot sell the theme. Creative Commons also has a clause where you can only make or add changes if you share them under the same license. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/
Thanks for the link. The general understanding seems to be that the .tpl files (i.e. the files with the php code which is released under GPL) are opensource and cannot be sold. The css, javascript and images etc are not GPL and are totally separate to the Drupal system, so can be sold. Which seems fair enough.
I'm looking forward to seeing some themes on your site soon I've fallen in love with drupal, but simply DON'T like the themes they have. How much will it cost per theme, Paul?
If it's GPL it can be sold, you just have to make the source code available: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#DoesTheGPLAllowMoney
Very true. One way or another, all the .tpl files and php snippets will be available. We will post everything covered under GPL at Drupal Theme Machine as well as Drupal Snippets. I'm pleased to see there are people interested in buying Drupal themes. Please do leave your comments and suggestions either here or on the forum at Drupal Theme Machine.
We have now launched our first widely available Drupal Theme. Paul
Excellent, i also use drupal but i really dont like any of the themes, will be checking your site often thanks
There's definitely an interest, in fact, it's one of the main complaints I have with Drupal. I've got a review on my site (cmstester.com) that specifically identifies this weakness.
I'm pleased you like the Minty Fresh theme. The Minty Fresh theme had to be versatile enough to be used on blogs, business and forum sites, etc. We would like to hear any of your suggestions for new designs and layouts, etc. The more feedback we get the more we can improve our service. Sign up to the site (www.drupalthememachine.com) if you would like updates when we release a theme. Paul
Here are some of our resent custom developments: http://www.brochureholders.com http://www.bachelorpadfurniture.com Live soon: http://www.realworksmedia.com/capitalhygiene/dev http://www.realworksmedia.com/edp/dev/ As you can see; we design and develop sites for companies in lots of sectors and with various design requirements. Our aim with Drupal Theme Machine is to produce ultra modern and flexible themes that are widely accessible. However, we are always pleased to take on custom work. FYI We are currently looking into offering a demo site for our themes. We are having to balance the need to 'try before you buy' and our needs to protect the source code. I would be very interested to read your comments on demo/test sites.
Hello, Just a quick notice to let you know that we have a demo site running now. You can view our live demo by following the link from the theme page here: http://www.drupalthememachine.com/drupal-themes/minty-fresh Let me know what you think. Paul
