Drupal plus varnish

I'm doing some freelance development work for someone who needs their Drupal site to go much faster. I've had good results after having changed the Drupal 6 backsystem to Pressflow & putting the varnish module on the front. It's many times faster for most things.

Anyway - I'm thinking about using some varnish ESI (Edge Side Includes). Has anyone tried them & what are the likely results? This is mainly for people who've already logged into the system.

yes - it does make things faster & it's simple to use. There are lot of options to speed things up. I think that it's going to be hard to beat varnish, as it's focused on this. If I had a week of time, I might take a look at nginx as well.

It should actually be more secure - as you are only exposing the ports on a reverse proxy & hiding the apache server. I don't believe you'll lose any protection you had already & you'll get extra protection from DoS attacks etc.
