I have both of these running as test installs. They both seem like excellant scripts. I guess I have to choose one. I plan to use the winner to update and existing site and hence forth to add new content. Am I right with these assumptions? Drupal seems to be a tad easier to set up for multiple bloggers. I haven't figured out how to do it with WP. WP seems to have more plugins and themes. Both seem to be about the same for porting over existing pages or at least creating links to them. Which is easier to create custom themes for? Or to at least tweak an existing theme? One feature that I desire but have not explored with either of them is the ability to allow approved users to submit single articles to a certain categories but I would like to be able to assign different permission levels to the categories. For example any registerd user could post to local events but only a "group" called user+ could post to "nightlife". To be honest about it I might like to charge for the ability to post in certain categories.
Personally I think they are both very good. Just test them out until you decide which one provides the best options for what you want. Take a look a ww.joomla.com they have a WP plugin.
I use WP for one of my site and just started to explore Drupal for another. IMHO WP is a pure blogging tool with extra ability to create static pages. While blog entries can have category, pages cannot. On the other hand, Drupal is a CMS where category, permissions, etc can be applied equally to static pages as well as blog entries. You can even create new content type in Drupal. Creating custom theme is easier in WP. In Drupal, you need to understand all those 'hooks' which are extensively documented but not very well written for normal people. I'll say if you foresee your site to be more of blogging type then use WP. You'll be able to get your site up and running much faster.
For a more interesting and unique edge, I'd go for Drupal in your case. It seems like everyone's using WP these days! But WP is good, don't get me wrong. They're both very similar and easy. For multiple bloggers, I think Drupal is "more made" for that.
I think I have to agree. Following the advice above I added users but the posts all show up in the same place. Maybe I muffed something and will continue the test. I really don't have to rush this.
If you just want a blog, I'd recommend WordPress. I've found Drupal to be overkill for simple sites, and a bit too complicated to setup, plus there aren't many athestic themes for it (or at least not that I've been able to find). If you need a full blown CMS will all the bells and whistles though, Drupal would be a better choice, as WordPress is really limited to blogging with a few static pages.
Actually the more I played with the two installs the more I came to appreciate Drupal. Wp most likely is best for the first time user and seems like it also might be easier for a newbie to set up. Having set up more than my share of bad scripts in the past I did not find Drupal overly difficult to set up. The more features you add the harder the set up any script. Documentation could be better. Maybe experience helped me there.
