Dropped rankings : Inner Page no longer in SERPs

Discussion in 'Google' started by fluid, Oct 29, 2008.

I was ranking for some keywords which are 3-5 words long. During the last google update (algo change), i've dropped rankings for pretty much all my inner pages except the homepage. The pages are indexed in Google but even if you try to look for them with quotes, you cannot find the inner page listed anywhere. Would that be a penalty? Has anyone else ever experienced drop in rankings on inner pages only?

    What do you guys think?

This is a common. Most of inner pages got ranked with some keywords when they are new because of their freshness. Their ranking will be dropped if the other sites launch the similar content later and you have no link linked to inner page to maintain the position. Most of SEO focused on building links to homepage but the most important part is build link to inner page more than a homepage. That's a fact.

i agree with bloomtools, build back links to use inner pages.
    it might help you...

when google changes its algorithm, we should learn how to adopt to its flow so we can still maintain good rankings...:)

I don't think that could be a penalty, there is possibility that you might be losing the backlinks to your inner pages.

I've had exactly the same thing happen to one of my sites, it used to have good rankings and now they are gone. The pages were still indexed, but, exactly as in your case, they didn't list even if I tried to search for a phrase inside an article in quotes.
Getting links to inner pages theory doesn't work, because I always deep link my websites. Since my rankings have disappeared, I got a few good links from authority sites and still nothing. The good news is that my site started appearing when searching for phrases in quotes again. All my content is unique, but the site is fairly new. All I can do is sit and wait until my rankings are back. Personally, I think it's only a matter of a site being new.

i agree New content or new pages for the same keyword are the reason to dropped ranking in old pages or content.
