I can also atest to this I've had a site thats been bouncing around for many competitive terms from first page to nowhere. I've been changing the layout off and on the past 3 weeks and it seems everytime I apply my new and improved template my site disappears. I'm going to sit tight for the next week and let it ride to see how it does. If it doesn't return I'll be reverting it back to its old template!!!
every time you change the meta tags or title or keywords on your site it will change on the search engine, if you are on the first page just live it, every time you change and submit it will change, try not to play with that to much, i am giving you this information because its upen to me also. Moving Quotes
MSN has pushed me down for a few terms...but still first page. They are going through a lot right now...unveiling their NEW PPC platform...they are trying to keep up with it all.
I too went from #2 for a keyphrase down to #87 overnight in the last few days.. i made some changes to the page a day or two before, including the H1 tags.. still at #87 :-(
This happens to my site occassionally on msn, too. I will drop from #3 to #87 or to NR at all. Then, a few days later, I am back at #3. I don't know why this happens.
Randomly ... I have a few KeyWordPhrase being dropped as much as from 3 to 88.. and 8 to 100+, but my new pages which were crawled about a week ago are going stronger and stronger.. climbing from 80 to 3.. even 1 of them from 91 to 1!! So it is really unpredictable.. BUT MSN is the best SE for me, in terms of traffic.. So fingers crossed.
My HP keywords are fairly consistent with MSN but the interrior pages bounce around like other's describe - #2 to #9999 back to #4 to #9999. msnbot is really active, the pages are crawled frequently and there have been no on-page changes . It make it really hard to optimize for them when there doesn't seem to be a cause/effect.
since last night my 'money making' page has slowly gone back from 87, to 84, 83, and as of this morning #7.. hopefully it's still climbing..
Well, I think everyone will agree that MSN is squirrelly, will drop you out of the blue but will eventually make up and put you back in the money. I went from #2 to 12, so I'm hoping that I'll bounce back (live everyone here) up to 2 or 1! As to why they do it? Who knows? MSN has always been like that.
MSN is crazy. I dropped from #1 to off the charts making no changes at all. Two day later I am back in the first page and slowly back up to #1
they put me back up to position 26 which did nothing for me.. then just dropped me completely again yesterday..
My keywords have been lost in the MSN wilderness for 9 days now. I was really attached to those little guys too.
Good to hear, though it seems to be a frequent occurence with MSN, lots of patience and understanding is the key
Patience.. and lots of sleepless nights hopefully will bring u thru the roller coaster ride on MSN. Just a question to you guys, I have been seeing RSS feeds or SERPs on website pages, when i search for a particular term.. and they sometimes become top rank on msn. And what frustrates me is that they as a page itself has got no real content.. however they can managed to be top ranks for that search term on MSN. My question is, did the RSS feeds or SERPs found on that page help it to be rank so high? How come the RSS feeds and SERPs are not affecting the keyword density of the page, resulting in lower ranking?? I m curious... and yes, still new to this method.....
Sleepless nights? I don't think so. I don't lose sleep over the 2 or 3 extra visitors I get from having a search term ranked in MSN.
