I have consistently been ranking on page #1 for a keyword on Google since a year ago. Recently I have done two things that might have caused the massive drop. 1. I have been working on backlinks, adding about 20 big ones per day. Bought a certain package that gave me high PR site where you can add your link with keywords. 2. I redirected the original site to my new site with a 301. Redirecting the old main site url to a page on the new site. Pretty much has the same content on it though. Other keywords I ranked pretty well for seem to be still on the same pages in Google. Any ideas?
May be you bought the backlinks and Google found it. I lost PR for selling links from PR4 to PR0, but others there was not much change, although I sold in those also, This is how Google acts, I guess
google will penalize you for buying links if they found out if a site is selling links that site is big time penalized
Your ranking might have been affected by bad links from the package you bought. Most of the companies offering such a package link a site to irrelevant sites.
One should perhaps be careful in adding back links in a manner that appears genuine and normal. Trying to force too many actions in a shorter time frame always carries the risk of bringing your efforts into spotlight, making the big G stand up and notice! Regards, RightMan
u try to get link from various forums and its signature link with anchor text and u r back in rank comp.
It could be many links the same day (maybe you got like 1-2 backlinks in a whole month, then 20 same day, and that pretty much flags you.
John Chow got penalized for selling links he doesn't even rank for his own name and he is a power blogger lol
~TextLinkBrokers The problem here seems to be "how relevant are the links you're getting from the package you just bought. Google treats links on relevant sites as a good link but not on irrelevant sites... That may cause your rankings to drop even if you have use a 301 redirect...
You said you have redirected your site. Thats the problem. Now may be Google will not crawl your site anymore and may be they can penalize you because of redirection. I recommend you to change back to normal.
it just strikes me as odd that this only happened with the one keyword. if it were because of the redirect, i kind of assume all your keywords and the serach results might/would suffer/change, but only that one did change/drop, correct? i also wonder if that is your most competitive keyword? my understanding is that in general adding 20 new links a day isn't going to flag you, unless they were coming from a link farm or something such as that and google somehow discovered it - but then your site's entire rankings/search engine results would suffer/be penalized, i assume - but it happened with only that one keyword so i don't know. maybe with time it will recover....good luck to you.
