Dropped domains?

I see a lot of talk here in the directories forum about directories that are on dropped domains.

My question is, how does one go about determining that? Is there an easy way of identifying a dropped domain?

Any enlightenment would be appreciated ~

    cheers ~

    Hello...

I myself own a few dropped domains and usally they have a PR on the outer and nothing on the inner pages of the directory...
(Just be careful of "those with making claims" off pagerank 4-5-6 Directories as the domain will probably drop next PR update)

Checking the www.whois.com as well as the http://web.archive.org/collections/web.html will tell you just how long that directories been
around as well as show you an actual picture of monthly changes.

If you download SEO Quake for FF (firefox) or IE (internet explorer) then you have
the tools and can see anything about any domain within seconds ;)

    thx

Thanks! That's a great idea. I knew about that tool before but have only used it to check my own sites.

    cheers ~

Checking inner pages is not a very good way but it is a quick way to tell if you need to do more research. Typically the first sign of a dropped domain is a totally unrelated domain name, second if there is no inner page rank you should look at way back machine where it will show what was on the site and when.
