I have a site (powered by wordpress) that has a list of categories that is very long and takes up tons of space on the page. Is a dropdown box an seo effective method of navigation? All of the categories are in their own directory. Does this effect ranking at all? Is a dropdown link the same as a text link? Thanks in advance.
to my knowledge, a dropdown link is NOT the same as a text link, and therefore will not give you as good as results with SEO...I suggest you find a template that allows you to list all the links by text link, on the right hand side. I think this will help visitors as well, since I would much rather scroll down a page than mess with a drop down list...thats jmo though.
The only thing is there are over 50 categories and growing. Power users just hit ctrl + f and search for what they want on a page, average users would have to look through over 50, granted they are in alphabetical order. Im thinking a drop down then just the lists below.
so who are you targetting to...power users or average users? I target to average if I want more traffic...
My site is about a certain music genre. So i have about 50 artists to list. 50 links on each page just seems like a ton of wasted space (could be an adsense skyscraper instead) Decided to add a little shortcuts section on the top of the layout that will have a jump to drop down. Maybe there is a css drop down solution that would work?
found a great utility for this. a wordpress plugin with colapsable css menus. and if it cant store a cookie the links are always showing. pretty nifty
