Hey everyone, I am considering joining a drop shipping provider (such as salehoo or doba) and I had a few questions. Is it better to post items to ebay or to create my own website? Pro's and con's - ebay is used extensively and would therefore create more potential for purchases, but at the same time it has a lot of competition. Also, ebay imposes fee's for posting items especially if you post enough items to warrant an ebay store ($15-300/month). My own website, while essentially eliminating competition, will require much more work to get exposure. Thoughts?
I would do both. First, list the items on EBay and start selling there. Then, set up your own online store and start advertising it. It will take some time until your website becomes popular, however you could earn some income from EBay in the meantime.
I admit with vmlive, it is one of the ways many are doing it when they start selling their services, it is a toff work to get visitors to a new e-com website, starting with e-bay you will have the potential buyers from the very beginning and don't need to use your time on website building, SEO etc.
Drop ship->ebay /CL has been done to death, the market is completely burned out; go work on your own shop.
That's why i'm confused. eBay has done the legwork as far as setting up the website, getting traffic, etc., but there is A LOT of stuff on eBay so how do I know people will bid/buy my stuff as opposed the other billions? At the same time, if I start my own ecommerce site, I will have to work, spend time and money to generate traffic... eBay - Good traffic, no real setup, dense market Own site - no traffic, lots of setup (site, SEO, etc.), market is mine as long as they actually make it to my site
MMmhhh... depend on what do you want to sell.. as for me I'm selling shirt. For dropshipper there are a lot of dropshipper out there. I'm using silverosilver.com/dropship4us There is a whole range product for merchandise related item e.g. shirts, mug, wristwatch, lighter.. and many more. So far I'm not using website for selling, I only use ebay listing to sell my item directly to customer. It's much easier than having your site optimized for traffic. eBay has already enough a lot of traffic for you. Should you have any more questions please feel free to ask. I'm answering the best as i can.
of course, if you se on ebay, you will pay the listing fees depend on how many items you list.it means ebay will help you to promote your products, and you don't need to do much work to promote it. but if you creat a websit without ebay, you will have to promote the items by yourself to get more exposure.but if you want to get some sales.you have to use the comparision shopping websit as shopping.com.of course, there are free ones, like google base, For me, i use my own sit 3 months ago.i also sell on ebay before.but i think i should list more items to pay little ad fees.lol
So is anyone making even a part-time living doing drop shipping on ebay? Also, how much do you have to sell to be a "power seller" or whatever on ebay?
For power seller detail you might want to check _______http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/PowerSeller/requirements.html As for eBay paypal you only need the premier and of course business would be good. But for startup premier is more than enough. And I start my business a month ago. Not quite a lot I get but enough to refill my gas for a month.
Ok - i've got a business ebay account (although it's not showing my business name, but rather my userid) and I've got a business paypal account. How do I set it all up? It seems like there's 1000 steps to get ebay and paypal working together, let alone getting products from dropshipper added
i'm wanting to do electronics (just general consumer stuff - cameras, mp3 players, cd players, headphones, etc) - your selling t shirts?
Ok - now i've got the following: - business paypal account (not sure if everything is set up fully and/or correctly) - business ebay account - new domain name (found an EXCELLENT one) and zen cart installed I just need to know how to fully and correctly set up my paypal account (taxes, accepting credit/debit cards paypal on website, etc.)
Mmmhh i don't think you gonna need the domain though.... because I'm only using ebay as my online store... even now i don't have 'store' status in my ebay. Only listing 65 shirt so far. And yes I'm only selling shirt, for shirt I can share my knowledge. As for electronics I don't have the experience, there might be another master to share their opinion. Usually my method of selling i'm looking for shirt that are in or I think gonna be a selling. So it's a little wild game to guess which will sell or not. Of course since you upload a custom images, you do need be able to do little photoshop and adobe illustrator. The dropship gonna generate image in shirt that you could place in your eBay listing. I'm putting fixed price for all my item. Of course if you want to have a promotion you could auction some your item. Don't forget to register FREE auctiva account and put the code in your item description. If you want to see the sample of my ebay just PM me. A little note what I'm explaining here is only a fraction, I'm not suggesting you to do blatantly, because it's not detailed enough. Just contact me. I'll explain why. (For Khaos05 only, sorry no others.. got a little tight schedule)
Personally I would do both I drop ship Audio video products, wireless headphones and silver jewelry. I did both you a while. I had closed my ebay store last year. Managing 5 shopping site gets crazy sometimes. You can make good money with ebay but I always ran into problems with drop ship products out of stock and backordered.
Keep in mind you're competing with thousands of other suppliers from the same dropshipper. Also if you use different dropshippers to supply your customers you have separate shipping cost for each supplier but you can only charge your customer once. I'm sure there is a lot of money in it, but you have to seriously outline your business model before starting.
How do you handle the drop shipping issues on your own sites? Or do you only sell products that you have on inventory now?
I was confused too! I have my online tea shop, and the biggest problem is lack of traffics, but eaby is fee sucks, and a lots competitors
