    Hi,

Last 3-4 days I've experienced a big drop in traffic on my site miniclips.biz . After taking a deeper look at my Analytic Stats I've noticed that my visits from search engines are the same but that the visits from direct traffic is 5times lower than usual. I've tried to access my site by writing the URL directly in the IE address bar and everyting seems to be working fine. Does anybody have any idea what this might be since I had steady direct traffic since a couple months and IMO it's not "normal" to get down like that from one day to another... Its not because I didnt add new games or content lately... I know that my yahoo, live and msn traffic has dropped a lot lately but google traffic increased a lot thus compensating... Could this be related to the problem I'm facing?

Sry if thats not totally SEO related but I searched the forum and didnt find a better section for my post...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Vincent

Well direct traffic comes from people typing in the URL and coming directly to the site....so how would we know....I usually see traffic from direct referrals go up and down when i am running some sore of print advertising.

Well maybe there's a bug on the site that I cant see or maybe the site is loading very slow for some people... I don't know, I find it wierd to suddenly get a 80% drop of direct traffic so Im trying to find an explanation...

Or maybe some of you already experienced that issue and could give me a hint...

By direct traffic do you mean direct type in? Or could some of that traffic have been from people clicking on links on other sites that brought them to your site?

It could be that you've lost a backlink from a site that sent you a lot of traffic.

I would check your analytics again. Drill down on your direct traffic and count visits by referring site. Plot the counts for each referrer over time and see if any of your referrers that send you a lot of traffic suddenly dropped off around that time.

I don't even worry about Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask anymore. I SEO a huge brand name site and I see the same inverse effect. If I do something that helps at Google, it often hurts rankings at the other 3 big engines. But like you, I ignore it because the added Google traffic more than makes up for it.

My guess is what I mentioned above... that you've lost a link on some site that was sending you lots of traffic (or it's moved off of, say, a blog's home page and into their archives).
