I am at a loss here, so maybe some of you can help me... for the last month my site showed incresing traffic at a constant rate, but last week, I experience a sudden drop, from 100 visits per day to 5 - 10 only... and it has been 4 days now that I am getting only that much visits... Please, why could this be
100 visits per day is not all that many to begin with.. Maybe because it's a holiday week in the U.S. ? My traffic has dropped about 25% since Tuesday. Do you know where your traffic was coming from (i.e.; Google)? Maybe your rankings have dropped?
I know it is not much, I'm not boasting of my traffic because I'm still strugling to get them... I just hope that somebody experienced may have an explanation for this... Anyway thanks for the reply...
Find out from which source and for which exact keywords your were getting traffic and where it ranked .. and now where they are ranking in SERP. It will give you answer.
Don't you have stats to gauge where your traffic was coming from. If you do, would be a good place to start. If not, you really need to keep track where your visitors are coming from. There are several providers of free stats if your host doesn't offer them. If your host doesn't offer them I would find another host. Stats should be part of any good webhost package.
If most of your traffic was coming from google search, the drop may be the result of some of your pages getting moved into google's "supplemental results" index instead of the main one. You can check this by going to google.com and typing site:yourdomain.com in search. Your pages that are still in the main index will show in results, and you will see a link on the last page of results for "omitted" results. I just wrote up something about this in my blog: http://www.frickinawesome.net/duplicate-content-and-google-supplemental-results
I doubt if the traffic will drop from 100 to 5 because of the holiday period. It must be something else.
I've experienced traffic drop recently due to Thanksgiving, I think. All my usual visitor must be busy on other things. If the traffic picks up again in a day or two, then it was the holiday. If not, it's your rankings in Google etc, I'd guess.
mine has done theopposite all pages now left sup index and pages reindexed more traffic from different terms generated from relatively new pages , seems it was g and not my pages yay
You first have to tell us where you get your traffic from. If it's from Google then theres really nothing you can do except wait. If its from other sources such as forums, sites, link directories, blogs, etc..., go check out what the problem is and try to fix it if you can.
Mine decreasing from 5,000 to 1,000 visits/day and my site was no longer on the 1st page of Google and Yahoo since early last month. Was among the top 20 for about three years. I don't know where it is now. Possibly there was a major reindexing exercise by the major search engines.
That must really suck, you lost most of your traffic. It only happen to me once and I don't know why, I guess the only solution is to wait.
Same thing here. I was getting a lot os traffic from google, increasing up to 1200 uniques and in 23/nov it dropped to 200 a day. Almost no uniques from Google anymore. Funny thing is that, after 2 days my Pagerank Went from 2 to 3, and Google identified 4 backward links. It should be going UP, not down! The 1 result in my main keyword has a pagerank of 2, doesn´t have the keywords on the domain and has no backward links. Very funny (in a sad, sad way...)
