Drop in Keyword Ranking In Google?

Did anyone notice a drop in keyword ranking in Google search? One of my blogs seems to have lost a lot of search ranking in the recent past few days in Google, however it has retained its position in MSN and Yahoo.

This happens all the time. By Google's very nature, when one site attains a #1 ranking everything else must drop. For instance, if you typed "Cat washing machine" (without quotes) into Google, my humor site was #1 for a couple days. But over time I've dropped out of the top spots as other sites optimized for these keywords (which I did not, it was pure luck).

7 (seven) quality websites ranking for the same keyphrase knocked off page 1 & 2 to nowhere in the last few days. Quite shocking.

If they got "knocked off" then they weren't quality websites

you must build your links slowly. If you get now a lot of high PR backlinks you will raise in serps, but other websites naturally build their links, and they will grow easily, and probably your website is loosing some related backlinks, and after few weeks they will rank higher than you.

Same here...my site is 4 years old. Was ranking in top 10 for many keywords. On Feb 13, it disappeared....came back on the 17th for a day...not gone again. Site is still in the index but not ranking for any keywords in US. It is showing up in international google serps....it is getting a bit frustrating and old.

Wonder how long a brick and mortar would stay in biz if every few months the downtown biz association ask them to change their storefront and ad materials and boarded up their front entrance?

Which blog was it, if you don't mind sharing? Did you recently switch over from old blogger to new blogger?

It is http://nb-talks.blogspot.com, I just changed the domain with blogger custom domain address to http://www.nb-talks.com just few hours back. I had no. 2 or 3 ranking for a keyword and no. 1 rank for another keyword . Now those pages are not even indexed in google. However, the blog (http://nb-talks.blogspot.com) is still indexed in google. This problem is since the last few days.

And yes I switched from old blogger to new blogger few weeks back, but then I didn't loose any SERP. It is just since the last 4/5 days, gradually loosing. Thanks. :(

Edit: the no.1 rank for keyword 1 was probably topix.net (not sure), even it dropped to no.3 / 4 position. It's all so strange.

Edit2: I just checked topix.net is neither in results.

There are some other threads talking about this. It appears to be more than the daily everflux MC has spoken about. On the 13th, not only did the SERPS go wacky, but for a couple hours TBPR rolled back to September's values.

I have seen quality sites lose positions to sites that are horrible and offer little in the way with value. These sites are NOT optimized but have been around for years and years. It seems like Google is placing heavy emphasis on the age of a domain.

After thinking a lot about the issue, what I have figured out is that may be I have lost rankings completely because of loss of backlinks from internal pages. That is, previously in blogger when a new blog post was published, the 10 last blog posts posted before it used to be in the "Previous Post" section, however with the switch to new blogger the "Previous Post" section shows only the recent 10 posts. Hence we loose a lot of internal back links as the "Previous Post" section is no longer providing static backlinks as it used to in old blogger. So may be this is the reason so many blogspot blogs are loosing SERP rankings. Do you guys agree?

This happened to my site a week ago. Now it's back on Google and getting better placement than before it "dropped".

one of my keywords has had a very bad fall too.

from 12 to 28. but it's the only one that suffered, while the rest of my keywords are intact. that's what bothers me.
