Has anyone experienced a significant drop in serps for keywords right after the last update? One of my sites went from a PR3 to a PR4, then back to a PR3 again. At the same time, this same site experienced big drops in serps for all keywords. My understanding is that serp ranking and PR updates are independent of each other. I have had major drops for a day or two in the past, but the serps are normally restored to original positions. Just curious if anyone is experiencing the same.
If your page ranks for keywords are reevaluated its possible that some of them might go up or down. In many cases I have seen they come back after a few days.
Yes, in one of my Keywords I went from #4 on page 1 to #29 on page 3.... yesterday I went back to #15 on page 2. On the rest of my keywords, I did not notice any noteable changes.
My site went from a steady PR5 for the past 2 years then PR4 after the update and today its back to PR5 after a couple of weeks. The serps have been very unstable for the past couple of weeks fluctuating a couple of place back and forth but hopefully they will settle down again. I guess Google takes a couple of weeks to sort through the millions of sites after a major update and start showing the expected results. I learned some years ago that its best to give Google a few days or weeks nowerdays to settle down after an update and don't panic and start making changes to my sites that in the long run will damage the serps. I see new sites pop into the serps every now and again and more often then not they drop out of the serps within a few days or couple of weeks. Quality relevant links seem to be king. Links from free blogs, dropped domains, forums and directories have been greatly devalued so i don't waste my time and effort on these links any more anyway half the time the sites are dropped by google after a month or so. Far better getting quailty in content links if you can and forget about PR as long as the page is regularly cached that's fine. I have wasted thousands of $'s on link programs in the past, they don't work any more, you are better paying for someone relyable to get perminant links for you if you don't have time.
SERPs change all the time. Especially for new sites. If your site is new, then I suggest you build some quality backlinks for your site in order to get a stable position in SERPs.
I usually see an increase in SERPs performance in the week up to a toolbar export and then a slow fall afterwards. Could be coincidence of course.
