Driving age in UK

Is it true that theyre thinking of bumping up the driving age in the UK?

If so, when - just wanting (hoping!) it wont affect me, as im 17 early next year.

Ive been looking into ways of getting around it if it does come into force, such as getting a moped provisional licence - but I dont think that would work as the theory tests are apparently different for the two vehicles.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

i dont think you mus be worried about policy changes which has not happened yet. even if they do that nothing can be done, you cant change the laws.

Laws are changed very slowly, I live in Australia and we have extremely similar government systems so, I HIGHLY doubt it will affect you.

I started driving about 13 years ago and the rumour of them bumping up the age to 18 was circulating back then. My Sister asked about it a few years later and also my brother and then my cousins. It's just a rumour and can be ignored ;)

Im not saying it will never go up to 18... but after hearing it since I was 16 and I am now 30, I think it's a pile of rubbish :)

Correct. It's a bit of a joke really - if you're over 70 you have to renew your licence every 2 years or something similar. All you do is tick the box saying 'no medical problems' and you get your new licence.

putting driving age up will be a incredibly stupid thing to do.. im 17 in like 2 months.

Literally all its gonna do is increase drink driving.. while people are still crap and inexperienced at driving as well!

I agree there should be some upper limit also. The sight does gets lesser with time and your reflexes also slow a bit.

to drive in UK you must be atleast 17 years old.
you can apply for the Provisional Licence up to three months before your 17th birthday.
After that you can take your Theory Test once your provisional licence becomes valid.:)
