I don't even remember how Dreamweaver 2 looked like :)
But I guess you can use it for starters.. Afterall, it was just a buck so you can't lose much. What you can do is download their latest release and compare what it gives with what you've got..

As Clive said, you can download it...
I'm sure you can get a trial version on www.download.com or something to try it out, Dreamweaver 8 is alot better than Dreamweaver 2. :p
    And it's worth every penny!

I would actually recommend just getting a free alternative. I use Notepad++, but it requires more knowledge of the language as in DW, it makes most of the code for you. However, there are other alternatives to DW that produce the same result.

You can download a DW trial here. I would not give it up if it were for the price only. Better spend some time and earn the money then spend it to get the tool that will save you incredible amount of time. Besides, I've always felt like it were teaching me programming - nothing beats its autocomplete tool and colour highlighting.

I use DW4...which I prefer as I was taught it in college...however, I think 2 is a little old...search around, you can find some better versions cheaper than 8 that still do most of the same stuff..not all, but most.

I think Dreamweaver 2 might actually be WORSE than notepad, because of the old code. We used DW 2 in college! LOL.

Good call...DW 8 rocks. (Not perfect though, but then again, no program is.)

I remember DW 2 and I can pretty much guarantee you that some of the code snippets produced will not work in current browser. Remember, this was when 'web standards' meant supporting NN4 and IE :)
If you really can't purchase a full new version of Dreamweaver, I would recommend to get as close as possible to existing version, go no longer back than DW 4, but you should be able to get a hold of MX or MX2004 pretty inexpensive.

For a complete amateur, you can use Word with it's export to HTML feature. Dreamweaver is great if you want to lose your amateur status but for it to be worth every penny, you need to cost justify its 39900 penny cost.

Also, you may have some online site building tool available from your web host.
