    Your so right on this.... At my school, I can get Adobe CS 3 Design Standard or Adobe CS 3 Web Standard for $250.

    In fact, I bought Visual Studio 2008 for only $30.... that software came in handy for my programming class!!! :D:D:D

    If it does what you want it to do and you like it -- yes.

    if you're using the "design view" it's a complete waste of time and will really, really screw up your whole scene. hand coding is the best way to go and if you do that you won't need a big bulky program like dreamweaver.

    NotePad++ is sweet
    Komodo is cool too

    on mac a lot of people use BBedit

    It's only worth it based on your design preference...

    If you have a mac, there's nothing better than Coda imo.

    Thanks everyone for your comments. I have some doubts about the resulting code and hence reason for starting this thread. Obviously opinions are mixed so I may download a trial version and see how it goes. (Have to wait until 1st July for some weird reason).

    Thanks too for the offers of "cheap" versions, but I do want to stay legal and so will buy a legitimate copy if I decide it's worth it, once I've finished my trial.

    I use Dreamweaver as a text editor because I like using the Designer window as a "code navigator". NEVER do any change on the designer window because it will ruin your code for sure.
