I am new to dreamweaver, And I just wanted to no how to publish something to my website. I typed in random stuff and wanted to see if I could publish it on my dreamweaver 4, but it wouldn't work. I searched google to get instructions on how to publish but none of them worked. Could anyone help me how to publish with dreamweaver 4?

Dreamweaver works around with most commonly .HTM and .HTML files, save your files, then upload it to your site via ftp or any other available file uploader to get your site published.

You'll need a domain for a site, and domains are not free, you'll have to pay to register them.
If you need one, I would recommend name.com

Other wise, go for a free subdomain instead, there are many sites offering those services, you can try getting yourself a subdomain from http://zymic.com . :) Hope it helps

I have a domain name from godaddy

I wanted to use frontpage because i'm used to it but its kind of not working for some reason. When i click to publish it freezes. I will try to restart.

I just got dreamweaver as well trying to figure it out. So with dreamweaver are you saying i can't just click publish on it like frontpage and i'd have to use a different ftp client like smart ftp or something?

Dreamweaver has file transfer built in. It's been a while since I've used Dreamweaver 4 but go under the "window" menu and look for "files". This will open a file window where you can manage your web sites. You should see a drop down for "manage sites", select this and then click on the new button. There you will need to add some information so Dreamweaver can connect to your web site. FTP is one of the options.

This link on GoDaddy can probably give you more information...
