Dreamweaver default font vs. 'Standard Internet' font.

I'm surprised the 'default' font setting in Dreamweaver is larger than the 'Standard Internet' font. Why?

-Is it usually 'unprofessional' to use a 'larger than normal' font?
-Do you think most senior citizens can read the average size Web font?

    Thank You

It depends what kind of site you are going for. Large fonts seem to be popular with Web 2.0 sites. Check out the font's section of 2.0 Culture.

Just make sure your fonts are resizable by the browser, so people can choose their font size.

    Hello, gemini181.
In my opinion, there is a relation between the size of the font, and the content amount of the page. The traditional role of the Internet was to transmit information, but this has now changed. If your page has much content, you will prefer a smaller font so that you can present more information in less space. If, on the contrary, you offer little to read, you will favor a bigger font so that your sparse text occupies more space. The tendency now is to people read less than before, so it is only natural that a bigger font is used.
