Dreamweaver: dead duck?

I was wondering what thoughts were on using Dreamweaver (or any WUSIWYG html editor) these days. I used to use Dreamweaver MX for everything, but then I started had-coding and have never looked back. My first job hand-coding was removing loads of junk code that DW had put in there, I saved about 4 megs of space on my main website!

    So WYSIWYG or hand coding?

Given the cost of space, how much did you earn per hour making the change? :)

long live frontpage & its wysiwyg I love it!
However I aint no coder and see myself in the future using coders(people) more and using frontpage(myself) less, however it has served me well to date.

Well I usually do everything with Dreamweaver, then go through remove the garbage.

I'm up to par more and more with my HTML skills everytime I go to redesign a website of mine, or fix a bug, but damn ... it's hard to completely get away from Dreamweaver. Especially right now, working on developing some scripts for sites with a server running locally for me, I can edit it with no hassles of uploading, go to the lines of code in the Code markup of dreamweaver to that specific line. Lots of fun(ner) stuff than Notepad.

*Edit: Also, hand coding in DreamWeaver is a LOT easier because it will automatically close open tags once you type in "</"

yes I had frontpage for awhile but I never got on with it, can't remember why now.

I never thought of hand coding with DW maybe I better give it a go... one reason I handcode so much now is because I 'hot computer' a lot and it is easy to load up an online FTP site rather than find DW on a computer anywhere

Even when I'm using PHP I still use DW for doing the final layouts. It's a very useful tool to have and still the best around.

I agree, I hand code hands down. We use dreamweaver at work but I don't like it. Think of it like Mcdomalds. I want 100% chicken, not all the crap they stick in it. My coding is 100% chicken, while dreamweaver is only 70% chicken. I saw it on a commercial :D

I started on notepad a long time ago, moved to editpad (back when it was completely free and was pretty much just notepad with tabs), since then, I've moved on to Crimson Editor, VIM, SubEthaEdit, etc. I have tried DW multiple times in the past, but I always felt like it slowed me down, added a lot of garbage, or guessed incorrectly at what I was trying to do.

I guess it's like learning to paint and then trying to do paint-by-numbers ;)

I feel DW is a nice tool... maybe the best available in the market... but it is not perfect. It is slow and sometimes makes stupid guesses.
