I found a similar thing tonight , Dreamweaver mx has been working like a charm for quite a while but tonight it was freezing up and using 98% CPU Resources on my PIV 2.4 GHZ 512 MB Ram Notebook.

I tracked the conflict down to Apache server running locally and also XAMPP.
Once I switched them off all was well again.

    Regards,

I posted this in another DW thread about a similar issue, I made this discovery earlier whilst playing around with the user prefs.

    I got my DW8 down to between 0% and 1% processor usage from 30% - 40%!!!

It was bugging me big time as my computer with 20 odd firefox tabs open and a few other programs only use 2% between them all.

    Try this people

This is what i changed and I don't know what actually fixed it allthough I believe the status bar setting & the ftp setting might be the ones.. so you'll have to experiment a little.

In the Preferences under edit deselect/change the following..

    Uncheck show start page
    Uncheck use <strong> instead of...
Choose firefox as your default preview browser
Under "Site" change ftp to dissconnect every 1 min
On "status bar" options change connection speed to "1500" (this is what i believe did it!)

Good luck guys! My dreamweaver no-longer burns out my computer!!

Let me know how you get on, I've already told a few people this today & they are reporting 0% on idle which is fantastic!!
