Dreamweaver 8 WOW!

Just purchased DW8, I was using MX, all I have to say is WOW! What a great upgrade! I would highly recommend this upgrade, lots of little nuances added to make coding very easy. Easy WYSIWYG for newbs and the split screen is nicer too. :)

It autoshows and hides upon cut and paste, undo etc, so you can see immediatly the impact on code of a graphical command. Also, it loads a helluva lot faster than MX.

I wanted to install it, but it would not install here. After extracting files, it always shows this error. I administer this system, and definitely did not set any such permission. I also read through their support forum, but the one solution mentioned there did not help either.

Stupid point, but for someone like me with idle hands it makes all the difference: I love being able to still edit pages while I'm doing a mass upload. In previous versions you just had to sit and wait for uploads/downloads to complete before you could access the editor again.

    A few questions for you.

    1. Are you using the Mac or PC version?
    2. Is it stable?
    3. Is it any faster than it has been in previous over bloated versions?
    4. Is this version actually standards compliant?

I use it, and like it, but man it is the slowest software I have ever worked with. Even with dual 2Ghz on a Mac, it is insanely slow. Even worse than iPhoto!!! If you can believe that.

Anyway, thanx for any input on the subject.

    PC Version.

So far so good, first day with it, went 8+ hours straight, no problems...

YES! This is the first thing I noticed, VERY FAST, not a lot of crap loading...

After I am done with it? Probably not :p Actually I do not know, but for what I do it rocks!

How many years did it take them to sort that one out? Is there any good reason to upgrade apart from the ftp? Can you set file permissions with it yet?

I've kinda got used to having my trusty copy of wsftp pro

Hmm. Do you think that thanks to DreamW8 you will save time while maintaing good quality and will let you earn more? I prefer context or other simple text coding tool. I just don't see how I get back invested money with DW8...

Absolutely not. I much prefer to hand code, dw is ok for that it's search and replace is quite good as well.

I have dw because clients I work with have it, and I have to be able to cope with / produce dw templates etc on occasion.

I'm planning on giving it a spin over the weekend - I currently use MX2004 - but I hear V8 has some nice updated methods of editing the CSS which sounds appealing.
