I've heard alot of bad and good experiences from Dreamhost but never actually used them.
I've used HostGator before and they provided a perfect service :)... they seem to work with the client - e.g. If there account is overloading the server or site is running slow, they will move it to a server with less accounts. They also offer great support.

I recommend both... both are excellent and dedicated to their customers...

Dreamhost is also as good as hostgator... they move quickly to solve any prob that may have occured, and you may not notice it at all sometimes...

as mystery said above, it's really hard to compare HostGator with DreamHost. Both of them offer a quality service. Go with the one that is cheaper for you if you can't find anything else to help you decide which one to join.

I use hostgator and haven't had a problem with it. My site loads fast and it hasn't been down yet. I would go with them.

I go with Hostgator. Been with them since December last year and no downtime so far. Their customer support is also great, always available when I need it.

I prefer Dream host , here are some comparision:

    DreamHost Advantage :
    1. Quality support.
    2. Extremely fast server (faster than hostgator)
    3. Value for money.
    4. Good for all type of websites.
    5. Server uptime 99.99%.

    Hostgator Advantage:
    1. Quality support - Better than Dreamhost.
    2. Good server with 99.98% uptime.
    3. Good for small business - Not good for medium or big business , whenever you get a bit more traffic then they will ask you to move to vps.
    4. Value for money with rich features.
    5. Fast server.(But as not good as Dreamhost)

I use Hostgator and Dreamhost and haven't had a problem with both them. My sites load fast and they haven't been down yet. If you need bandwith I'd suggest dreamhost however if you use frontpage to edit your websites I'd recommend hostgator.

    Hi
i have never used Dreamhost or heard about them. I use hostgator and so far so good. What I love most about them is they are available 24/7 both via on line chat & phone hence not sure I can use any other hosting company plus I have never had any problem using them.

I would say dreamhost is better when it comes to pricing for the first year :p lot of promo's.. Hostgator is good but as stated earlier they tend to push you to VPS as soon as your site began to grow
