I know - both are oversellers, shared hosts. They claim to give you the impossible offers. But still it is tempting.

I want to pick one of them. I know some of you guys have tried one of them or even both. Dreamhost had a bad year last year. They had frequent downtimes and also their delayed customer support. I don't know about servage but read somewhere they had their share of downtimes too. Ofcourse nobody is perfect but shared hosts have more frequent down times than anyone else.

Since you guys are using them now, what is the present situation? Is dreamhost as bad as it used to be last year? How is the downtime for servage? Did these hosts forbid you from hosting any of those scripts (proxy, link farms) which you legally bought?

inman, I strongly suggest researching both these providers on webhostingtalk.com. You'll find a very large number of reviews on both of these companies if you put their name in the search.

Looks like webhostingtalk is a big forum. Dont know where to start. Even when I used the search feature, the results turned up must have had the search term (i.e. dreamhost) deep inside some thread. Anyway let me see.

It would be helpful if someone who is actually using the hosts can comment here. There are complaints particularly about the hosts going slow for database driven sites as their mysql server is slow. Any truth in that?

I like dreamhost.com with the promo code febsale (-50$ on all plans).
I use DH and GoDaddy, and I've got to say that DreamHost beats GoDaddy by far.

I decided to go for dreamhost and bought it for an year for $22.40. Another problem with dreamhost is that you cannot use promo code if you are paying with Paypal. So I had to signup for Google Checkout to use the promo code.

i'm using dreamhost. Yes last year was horrible, downtime like every other day. This year is much better and recently its been a lot better. I've only had 1 hour of downtime in a while.

As for mysql resources, I'm sure its the same for most shared hosting. If you use a lot of resources, I'm pretty sure they will get rid of you.

I have been using Servage for over a year. It is the best webhost I've ever used and has never been down since I've been with them. They use a cluster system of PC's so it's a miracle if your site ever goes down. They beat dreamhost in every aspect in my opinion.

    http://www.servage.net/

    use the coupon code: yaz

Yaz looks like you didn't read the rules... that's a referral link, as confirmed. Reported it to mods.

And me, I'm looking at using Servage; free setup, all the best :D

servage is terrible if you use more then 70 gig per day because it temporarily suspends you if you do.

How could you use 70GB of bandwidth per day though? They only give you "that" much anyway..

Yeh of course they suspend you because you are going over their 70gig limit per day.

I have been with Servage for 2-3 months now and i've only ever had a few problems with them but that aren't too frequent. On occasions i've had really slow load times for my dynamic pages, taking 10-20 seconds to load, whilst other times it prompted a download of the .php file when I tried to access it. But other than those problems all has been sweet.

I have also been using a site hosting on Servage for 7+ months (I have full Admin CP access on the site) and there have been little or no problems there either.

Good host at a cheap price !
