I was wondering, you know how with DreamHost, every site that you create via their control panel, most of the time it is placed on a different server? Which basically means a unique set of IPs for your directories. With a WHM Reseller or so, that's not possible. But since DreamHost actually places your site randomly on one of their servers, is DreamHost a solution to have some directories to run with unique IPs? Of course for SERP purposes. Thanks.
Month-To-Month Payments Monthly Price: $9.95 + Setup Fee: $49.95 Unique IP Address Not included I never sign up with a host that has a set up fee. They click a button and it cost you $50 b.s
wwws, there are hundreds of DreamHost coupons out there that you can find. One time, I got their lowest plan (which is still massive) for less than $25 dolalrs for a whole year. DreamHost by the cover looks expensive, but find the right coupons on the web (It couldn't be easier.) and you'll get the setup waived along with a yearly plan at a relatively cheap price. Thanks for your input jetbrains. Then if you wanted to run a directory or two to begin with, I guess it's better off going with DreamHost? (Assuming that they'll maintain their uptime.)
I'd recommend you use hostgator,I think you can install v2.x version on dreamhost (a MOD on phpld forum told me).All my dirs are hosted in hostgator and its great. You can find some hostgator coupons here.
dreamhost is mostly having problem with their mysql . if you are using mysql , you will get problem with your directory
DON'T do it. go with hostgator or site5 or some other alternative. dh's sql servers are absolute sh*t when you start really getting into coding.
I agree with anon, the bigger your database the slower your site will be. This is bad for directories because you have a hude db. Other than this dreamhost is a great host. Just browse in their support forums and you will find a coupon to save $50-$100.
Dont go for site5 if you are hosting a directory site. They dont encourage this kind of "links only" scripts. I am a site5 user but I had to buy a dreamhost account too to host such sites. Regarding dreamhost, I used a coupon code and bought the $9.95 / month plan for $22.40 a year. That too with no setup fees and a free domain.
You can get a good deal with Dreamhost, but as anon said, sometimes their servers are not all that good. If you are running a small to medium sized directory, it is probably ok. Also, historically there has been some extra troubleshooting required to install phpLD on Dreamhost (though once it was setup, it was fine). I really like hostgator the most.
Does HostGator have a similar function where your sites will be hosted randomly on one of their servers so that two sites most likely won't have the same IP address?
Yep...HostGator is the way to go ! cheap (DreamHost) isn't always a better option. DH users experience frequent downtimes and poor page load speeds. I hope you'd be interested in real HostGator Reviews and Coupons
static, very few hosts will distribute sites over different IPs and I think thats possible for clustered hosts...very rarely you'd get different class C Ips on the same host...so not much of SEO benifit. People use different hosts to achieve the IP thing.
Got mine going on a vps.. very pleased with it, fast response and good serp, and can handle traffic spikes.
I use dreamhost for hosting about a dozen sites. Most are on seperate IPs and not from my doing, they just have that many sites and odds are you're going to have different IP addies. It's really cool with subdomains also showing up seperate IPs. So a forum/directory addon is more beneficial.
I never knew that dreamhost places your each addon at different servers? Is this true? So does it mean different IP each site?
I've actually asked them directly and they will NOT transfer or set it up so that your domains are on seperate ips, but that said it happens more often than not so the likelyhood of your subdomain or new domain being on a unique IP addy is VERY likely. ie; My footer links
Hey its nice to hear all these things bout host gator. anybody know if they got zend optimizer loaded for php 5? This is the new one which which works on encoded php 5 scripts? also do they support ssh and sftp? I'm gonna need an additional hosting account for another project i'm working on and would appreciate the info.
My adult Directories are at "Dream Host" and they offer a good service. Now the rest off my sites are at "Host Gator" and i have to pay for each Ip thats unique witch would be 18 as they are all on seperate ips.And yes i have to have a resellers hosting package which is ok as i got Bandwidth link Crazy and can opt to sell if i want. thx malcolm thx malcolm
