This truly is a very sad thing to see. Please keep your head up and wish for the best. Times are hard now, but soon, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but soon, you will be back on your feet. They continue to use "spam" as the case here, to make the client look like there in the wrong, since obviously, the public has no real patience for spam. However, the truth of the mater is this- The customer was emailing only indivuals she wanted to email. This is the year 2007. There are exploits that occur on insecure scripts, or even insecure host. We have had many cases of a customer who we have known well for a good year, know they would not spam, yet, all of a sudden, 12K emails are shooting out of there inbox. There scripts were outdated, simple fix. You dont terminate an account under no circumstances. If this was an email abuser, she would have opened the account, used it up until she got caught or the ips were blacklisted, then went on to the next host. This customer clearly stayed in contact with the host. This is a pure case of injustice. I'm sure if you all see the other side of the token as I have just explained, it will make more sense. And if anyone in this thread is a web host, you will further understand. This was an injustice

Even if the customer's account is being used to phish and possibly cause harm
    to other clients' sites?

I've been on both sides, so I know what it's like and what to prepare for.

    Dave,
Been in this industry for years. No fly by here, so tokens, I know both sides well. You do not terminate a clients websites under any circumstances unless of course, you have verified the order to be doing the above mentioned criminal or negative activities. This customer was not notified. The customer was not warned.

Not every customer deserves a case, however, spam? I know of exploits that would work very well on atleast 45% of the outdated scripts that would run the same activity with the end user never knowing.

Customers deserve the right to know what it is that is going on, and if the host and the customer are communicating, in this industry, you can flip a double sided coin and get the same results- That is not a customer wanting to run malicious codes, exploits, or Spam trails on a server. Your entire post had no point or relevance to this article and the op's original issue

One thing to keep in mind here. A private business can pick and choose their customers.. NO ONE has a right to service, and hosts have every right to refuse service just as any other private business...

Violate the rules, which are pretty much industry standard, and you are going to get terminated. Be good to your host, they will be good to you...

Agreed,As i said in one of my post on this thread,I got my site hacked and 100s of emails sent out from my account, allso i found illegal pages that had been placed deep into my flashchat folder,i dident even know they were there until i checked 1 of the emails that was returned to sender and there was a link to the illegal page.that i del.i contacted host regarding this and the say server is safe its my folder write permitions, they were set to none write, and it hapen again so they dell my account lucky i had backup.moved to new host.never had no more probs.

So a site can be hacked and emails sent out even without the owner even knowing.
To this day i still have no idea how the hacker got in.. and i still use the same flashchat

I defer to your experience on this business.

I agree that customers deserve the right to know. OTOH, it can be argued as
well that service providers deserve the right to weigh their risks and do what
they believe is the most appropriate action based on the circumstances.

The catch here is that Dreamhost has practically set their policies "in stone".
While one may not necessarily agree with them in principle, they legally agree
to it anyway when they click that checkbox upon signing up.

It's anyone's guess what sort of "proof" Dreamhost has that the OP broke the
terms of their agreement. Unfortunately no one can force them to show that
"proof" unless (knock on wood) the OP sues in court.

Now it's good you notify customers of problems like these. But there is no law
or governing standard that service providers must do this when that happens,
and Dreamhost has drawn the lines how they handle things even if we don't
    like them.

The main point of my long post earlier is that we end-users ought to be fully
aware of the terms of the providers we do business with. If we don't, there
might come a time they'll tell us and we most likely won't want it.

It brings a lot of unwanted hassles, sure. Either we work with them and more
or less comply with their terms, or we look for someone else who can do what
    we expect of them.

I guess my rants don't really have any relevance. If anything, I'm hoping that
people here become aware of this reality and take steps to address them as
much as they can before that happens.

Dreamhost did the same to my account. Deleted all my sites and content for "spam" but no details were every provided (sent them over a dozen mails).

They are as unethical as they get, and my contents of months was wiped out.. and had to start from scratch. Infact they took over 1 month (about 4 mails) just to release the domain transfer key that I had booked with them.

They suck, their service sucks, they offer you lot of bandwith and space.. but if you even come close to using 10% of it they will ban you for one reason or another.
