why is it these editor applications have such a bad name in the html era" Imean they really suck"

I mean people just don't like them? My up line hates all of them and he referes me over to a html editor thats linked to note pad" has anyone had these issues?

I'm a Dreamweaver fan, I've used DW for many years now. In the early days I did use notepad to write my markup, but Dreamweaver helped with syntax highlighting, site management, workflow integration etc so I find it an extremely useful tool.

I regularly hack my markup directly using DW's code window, so anybody who says only use notepad or anything like that is cutting off their nose to spite their face. If tools are there to make our lives easier then it's stupid to say you'll do it the hard way.

If your dev's so damn hardcore & old skool tell him to ditch his t3 or 3co connect and go 56k, or better still, quite his drivespace and go back to punched tape.

Totally agree. I never understood why people brag about coding from notepad.

Coding from notepad is taking it a bit far (anyone with half a mind would use something like SciTE), but once you've been coding for multiple browsers for a while its easy to see why most developers hate WYSIWYG editors.

The problem with WYSIWYG editors - FrontPage, DreamWeaver, PageMill, etc - is that they do all their layouts with tables and they output horrible, tangled code that will most likely only work in IE6. Trust me, if you're doing your pages from something like the Design mode of DW, quit now and learn to do your code from scratch. It will help you in the long run.

If you're just using the coder interface of DW, though, thats good enough. I actually quite enjoy the syntax highlighting and auto complete features of the DW interface.

know thats a great addition to this post" I mean it really based lined the note pad html theory" I mus agree with you on those very savvy and useful standards" rep added:D who really can say they have Dream weaver edited web sites on line that really sells their product

one thing though if you design A web site with DW - NVU - front page etc...
and used it strictly for ppc advertisement do really think it would matter if the site was built with these editors? I mean the engines will endex them. they must im sure is scares the spiders away and maybe The gbot > but if its on ppc I really dont see how that would effect the traffic" or the site even if it were designed with tables:rolleyes:

    comments anyone?

I totally code by hand using DW. DW makes mistakes but its a big help in typing if your using it in code view.

Dreamweaver is by far the best web-design software when it comes to coding, in my opinion. It changes the colour of the text for readability, it allows you to FTP sites directly upon save, it has a "reference" at the bottom for numerous scripting/markup languages (which is dead-useful when coding), it shows any invalid markup - it even allows code-snippets!

Dreamweaver is definitely the best software you can get for coding a website (Or for even using as a WYSIWYG editor)

Wrong. Dreamweaver not only supports tables - but it also supports divs. I taught my sister how to create table-less designs in DreamWeaver using the WYSIWYG editor, and they display correctly in most situations. It really depends on the skill of the user when making them, in my opinion. WYSIWYG may be easy to use to create a webpage, they're terrible at making a good page if you're not good enough with them. Even with coding though, a person will be able to create some errors.

i use expression 100% and love it. i used FP forever prior. When it comes to developing in .Net, you can't not use expression IMO if you want to take advantage of masterpages n such. my 1 complaint about expression: does not render 3rd party controls in design view.

Everything I've built over the last 7 years has been authored and/or edited with Dreamweaver. For example my blog is a standard blogger template but has for the last 3 years been modified and coded in Dreamweaver.

How well are my sites doing in the SERPs? OK for some terms, not so good in others. Does this have anything to do with the fact they're authored in Dreamweaver? No :)

I´ve been wondering this...and came to the conclusion that...if you drop out all the SEO stuff and others. Does it really matter how you build your site? Whether you use DW or other WYSIWYG editors or by notepad and others. If the site looks good and your happy with it, i say use whatever you want, if your doing it for yourself and for fun of it. But if you want to make money for the site building that´s another thing. Then the code should be clean and valid, and therefore the DW design view isnt the best choice. So in my opinion
if you are making sites for your own fun. Use what you like! I´ve used DW and now i´m using notepad++

    So what´s your opinion?

HDaddy their is a very good way to recognize your DW web site going up in the serps" thats somewhat the issue" I mean if your getting back links and you're web sites are pulling in sales then awesome you know your on the right track" they say to use the code view in dw" and if you want to see what it looks like switch to design view then back to code view so you can continue coding their" Im very much concerned about the coding issue I here the note++ Is really good to.o whats the difference between DW code veiw and notepad++ by the way. " like you said coding in dw works and it goes up in the serps and such" but the note++ thing is it a harder angle to tackle.
