I am looking into buying a drawing tablet for my work..does anybody have any suggestions about what I should get.. I don't want to spend any more than $800. I heard Wacom tablets were good, but I am not sure...

Wacom pretty much own the tablet market, and for good reason.

Which Wacom you buy will depend on what you're planning to do with it. If you're a 'real world' artist, then you'll probably want the biggest tablet you can afford. If (like me) you can't draw to save yourself, and you only need a tablet for pixel level photo editing, then you can easily get away with one of the 'baby' Wacoms.

I've got an ANCIENT Graphire2, it's had plenty of use, and it still works perfectly.

I'd recommend the Bamboo Pen which I got for myself. It's value for money if you don't really need the touch functions. Once I become a better designer I will be upgrading to Intuos 4 small, so if you want to go for top notch quality at a higher price, that's what I would recommend for you. I've read the reviews all over the internet and everyone is raving about it. I definitely want one. But the Bamboo Pen is a good start, it'll last you for years to come.

wacom absolutely,I own intuos 4 and its fantastic, just buy Medium size one its more than enough for you, later on get bigger, choose tablet size by reffering to your monitors resolution you use, because if using small let we say A5 tablet on 22 inch monitor it will not fit well, hope it helps.

Wacom is pretty much the industry standard. It doesn't get any better. I personally have an intuos3 9x12 which I bought two years ago and is still working well.

grabbed a wacom fun since i dont really draw all that much, but when I do draw I love it. Its alot of fun to use and not overkill for simple illustrations that I do

Wacom all the way. I bought the Wacom Bamboo Fun a couple years ago to use for drawing mascots and tinkering in Photoshop. The tablet connects with a USB to my computer and has a stand for the pen when you're not using it. It came with a wireless mouse so you don't have to keep going back and forth between you mouse and tablet. In addition, it came with some great bundled software, Photoshop Elements and Corel Paint. It was well under $100.

I signed up for the Wacom newsletter which I rarely do when I purchase products. There's always something interesting in their mailings along with the latest product news. Check out their site. I'm sure you'll find the perfect tablet that is top of the line for well under your budget. Best of luck!
