Use anything between 2H and 2B.

Anything less than 2H will not be clear enough and and anything more than 2B may smudge.

(Depends on quality of paper that you use).

You should use 2B or 3B.

just depends on what type of drawings you want to make..

the higher the B number the softer the pencil is

negative part is that it can smudge
positive is that you can use this to fill in shadows, ..

high H numbers are hard, draw sharp lines
so if your style of drawing requires this then chose it
but then it'll be really line-art that you make, like etches

HB is a 'regular' pencil, most sold
I would buy a HB, a 2H and a 3B. then you cover a large range and can try all styles
hb will be easiest if you need to learn how to draw

I find 2B the best for the work that I do.

this is what you need to do, draw the outline with a 2 or 3H, it will be faint, dont apply too much pressure or you will leave an imprint, once you have the design worked out then proceed to go for a 2 or 4B to add definition.

Are you planing on a tone based image or going to ink it later in color?
