Hi My site is fairly new (couple of weeks) and had been ranking really well for a number of terms (30+) with average rankings in the top 10. Overnight 2 days ago the rankings vanished for pretty much all my terms and now when I search I can't find my site in results for those terms at all. Example: Term: healthcounter.com voucher Average Ranking: 3.0 Now I can't find my site listed. Does anyone have any idea about what is going on? I have not seen such a dramatic drop across the board overnight before. Thanks
Your site might be in Sandbox or hit my one of Google's algo penalties (Penguin, Panda, etc..) Did you receive any messages from Google via Webmaster tools?
Had no message from Google in webmaster tools. I have done another check to see where I now rank for the above keyword and I am no not even listed within the results!
Surely after the honeymoon period you would not be dropped from 3rd average to not appearing in the results at all even though the page exists in the index.
Sounds like the honeymoon period to me. Happens to most new sites e.g I made a site 2 months ago, ranked in the first 5 results for about 4 terms then tanked to outside of the top 500 results after about 2 weeks. All rankings just came back better than they previously were. Also have another month old site that is currently doing the same thing. UPDATE: Looks like you may have been manually de-indexed: http://www.google.com/search?q=site...&sugexp=chrome,mod=0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Ahh, so that's what it's called. Same thing happened to several of my sites (most notably one that was all over page 1 on Google and then just went *poof* and disappeared). I assumed it'd be back (it is) but didn't know what the common term was for it. Thanks for that!
Hi thanks for the response. The site you have searched for isn't mine, my site is http://offerwindow.co.uk and it is showing about 1400 pages indexed. I also took a look at my analytics for yesterday and noticed something strange. There was the referral (less than 5) from Google for the keywords that I used to rank for, so at some point the site was back in the rankings and then vanished again.
there are couple of issues with your site. first of all, there are not much real content on the site as its a coupon/offer site. every single coupons or offer refers the visitors to an external site. if you have 1400 pages indexed and each page having multiple external links, you have thousands of external links on the site. basically google can consider your site as a gateway to other sites and not having any original content of its own. second issue is duplicate content. there are few pages of the your site that are copies of other sites. not a whole lot of copied content found but there are some offers that have copied text which google doesn't like. ranking you had previously was due to fresh content which google likes but once google has more data about the site, they adjust the ranking accordingly which is what happening in your case. not to burst your bubbles but in my view, the way the site is structured right now, it will be difficult to rank it high. unless you do some major restructuring.
Hi thanks for the input, I did wonder whether or not it was a good idea to link directly to the advertiser. I know a lot of other voucher code sites link via an internal page, I wonder if this may resolve that issue.
After doing a bit of research I think the site was hit by the Panda update around the 20th of this month. Not sure what to do now because it is a fairly new site.
