Hi I have went from page 5 to page 12 in one day for my main keyword, with no apparent reason behind it, is anything specific happening with goggle? Thanks Dee
I am not aware of anything specifically happening today. Usually when Google have a PANDA update or the like the forums go a bit crazy with people saying that their sites have dropped etc. As you are the only one I don't think this is the case. If you are not already then sign up to Google Webmaster tools. Its free. There is within Google Webmaster tools to see if your site has been penalized by Google and usually points you in the right direction on how to rectify it.
How old is your site and what was the last link building did you make? AND, no I don't think that there's an update happening yesterday or today. But an update will come most probably because I've seen a lot of changing in rankings from the start of september and maybe google is testing something and will roll it out as an update for their cutie penguin.
I've been seeing similar fluctuations over the last few weeks and read that Google may have been doing testing on new algorithms. Out of 50 keywords I track on a site, only 2 saw big fluctuations where I dropped 5+ pages back. As I analyzed the other sites that moved ahead of me, it seemed to me (totally my opinion) that Google's new update pushed a lot of sites ahead of me that were more geotargeted than before. Take a look at some of the top results and see if you see "weak" sites on the first few pages that are there due to their location. I have a feeling they are doing a better job with scanning for location keywords in sites and giving precedence to sites that are near your location.
Sometimes Google Panda and Google Penguin will update their algorithm from time to time. Give it for about 2 weeks to see if there's any persistent problem.
Oh my gosh! I'm experiencing the same problem! What's frustrating is that a lot of my keywords (I have 25+ keywords btw) are dropping tremendously. Is it because I handle four websites and my link building is not enough? Is there anything significant in Google that's happening? Can you please give me an advice as to what is happening? With the four websites that I'm handling, I can't really keep up with the news that's happening!
My site is almost 5 years old and for almost all of that time has been page one for my main keyword. Last back links were from a couple of UK directories but I don't even think they have been approved yet. With regards to keyword density as I mentioned in a previous thread, for the same keyword http://www.webconfs.com/keyword-density-checker.php shows 4.52% yet SeoQuake shows 2.26% which is more reliable? do both take meta tags keywords into account? My competitors have a density of between 7-8% and are still on page one, so surely it can't be that, but then I can't think of anything else.
Competition for the same keyword might has been increased and other people have optimized it so far. And here your ranking goes down.
This can be natural some times but I would personally recommend you conduct a decent analysis of your site starting with this http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/tu...acklink-profile-for-current-future-penalties/ If there are any problems with your onsite/offsite SEO that will reveal them to you and give you the information you need to make an educated decision to move forward appropriately.
I tried to download the spreadsheet after sharing the video, but can't see any link underneath the video to download, there are links to SEO tools but I don't see any link to the spreadsheet, please can you advise?
Work out you link diversity this could be an issue, remove any bad links where possible, add lots more content and socialize that content and wait a while. Do an audit of your site this should give you good idea what’s gone wrong
This is just natural. Maybe you need to "spread" your back links and avoid exact matches for your keyword. Try to diversify sometimes and make sure that you optimize your off-site optimization.
To evaluate your website link profile, no Google update is necessary to be around. You may want to check your link building activities over last few weeks, see if there are no links lost (those were actually good and relevant), if you got some duplicate content or shady links penalty. And the best approach would be Site Audit.
There's no significant algorithm change the past few days so I suggest you look at your site more closely as well as the keywords you're targeting. Has there been a drop in the traffic to your site prior to the change in ranking? Is it for your entire site or for a specific page? Check your competitor sites too. Have they changed ranks the same time you did? Is there a new competitor on the rise? How are your backlinks? I agree with chillingbreeze. Go over your pages and do a site audit. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
