DP Writer Survivors - Season 1 Casting

Discussion in 'Content Creation' started by kpaul, Nov 11, 2008.

Ahem. I was making a funny last night in a content buyer's thread. He was deciding on which DP writers to hire and was narrowing down his choices. Something like over 60 writers had applied. I mentioned that it was starting to sound like the television show Survivor.

Thinking about it more, I began to wonder why not try something like that? So, I'm putting out a "casting" call for DP Writer Survivors Season 1. I'm also looking for Content Buyers at DP to get in on this as sponsors.

    Content Writers

For this first season (if this is popular, there may be more), the contestants are going to be chosen like this. The first ten (10) DP content writers who respond to this and pm me with "I want to be a 'contestant'" will be in the first season. The last two spots will be announced when the first 10 spots are filled.

Here's (at the moment) how I see it going. There will be at least 12 immunity challenges over the course of the next three months (one a week.) If these are sponsored (read below), there will be a "prize" for winning immunity in the form of a "paid writing gig at $0.02/word" from the sponsor. If we get no sponsors (a possibility, I guess) we can still "play" and show potential buyers our skills and also have a little fun.

The immunity challenges will be writing tasks of 200 to 500 words, so nothing too difficult. I want genuine content written for this thread only, though. So, no rewrites or copying from other sites. (Anyone found cheating in this manner will be disqualified and booted from the 'game'...)

If we get a lot of interest in sponsoring this, we could also do a set of 12 reward challenges.

There will be an immunity medallion somewhere in the game too.

Whichever team loses the immunity challenge each week will go to the "writer's council" where one of their team will be privately voted off. (PMs will be used for this voting...)

The final writer survivor will receive - a big writing gig from a sponsor? A sense of accomplishment? We'll see how much interest there is.

    Content Buyers

You fit into this idea as well! Not only will you get to see some examples of writing from DP writers, you may also be able to purchase some of by sponsoring an immunity challenge or (if all those spots are filled) one of the reward challenges. I was thinking $20/spot (money would go to the winning team's member who the sponsor chooses by picking one of their articles submitted.)

So, by sponsoring one of the immunity challenges, you're actually just investing in some good content and getting mentioned in what hopefully will be a new DP tradition. ;)

    Me

I'm going to be your host. Please not that I can only be held responsible if things to terrific. There are a lot of details that probably need to be worked out - guarantees from the sponsors that they'll purchase the content or an understanding from the writer contestants that not everyone at DP is honest all the time.

I won't be getting paid for all the work I might put into making this idea work (and be fun and challenging) ... so, if a Major Sponsor wants to step up (hint, hint) - be it a content buyer or one of the many fine article writing collectives here at DP, PM me and we'll see what we can work out.

    You

So, are you game for the first ever (that I know about) DP Writer Survivors competition? Here's hoping I don't get a legal thwack for stealing the game idea. We may have to change it up some or change the name...

In any case, if you have any questions, post them here or send me a PM.

    DP Writer Survivors ... Ready?

I tell you I'm super paranoid about DP rules now. Heh.

It starts as soon as we find 12 writers willing to go along with it? Would be great to have at least one or two sponsors as well - they would get to pick what the topic is for the writing challenge they sponsor.

Or maybe the first one includes few writers?

The thread has only been up a couple hours, though, so we shall see, I guess.

Maybe make it 6 instead? :p

So, sorry if I missed it in original post, what is the "prize" -- like if there are sponsors I see, but if this thread just has activity from writers, then what?

The winner wins all the content that was written by everyone?

Hmmm. That might not be a bad idea. We'd have to make sure all the writers agree to that, though. I imagine once we get 6 (or 12) writers, we can finalize some of the details a little more. I'm sure I haven't thought of everything.

Or maybe (without sponsors) I can offer up an ad either in my sig or on one of my sites. If anyone has ideas, let's hear them.

    Here's my suggestion...

We focus on one niche, team up and create a niche web site. If we have anyone good at SEO as well, they can do some SEO work, and every week someone is eliminated until we have a winner (who gets to keep the site).

    Eliminations will be based on...?

Might sound corny but the idea of teaming up or having two teams competing for the better site would be fun!

I am regular Content buyer here. I am interested with this contest, and I interested to become contest sponsor (if the the prize is not Really expensive :) ). I agree with SunHunter
First one I could offer here is I have some good domain and keyword rich domain with age, may be we could pick one of them, then focus on one domain/niche. Every writers make a great and seo optimized content to that domain and in my think, the content/articles which could pull many visitors to that article from search engine, then the writer who write that popular article will won and the winner could get that domain and all of the contents and may be some money :). (sorry for my bad english :) )

Let me know what you think guys with this idea :).

    Cheers.

This idea Guniwan is my idea, you thief! :p

Well I think what I am thinking is a good basis but still has to get some fixing up to work better.

When the site starts out, up until there is a winner, kpaul should be allowed to have his adsense pub ID there so he gets something for hosting (as he can't win a prize).

It's kind of judge who wrote the popular article but the idea of weekly eliminations is good. I'd like the idea of having two teams competing somehow as well.

Hopefully we can get something going on here.

haha I am not thief Bro SunHunter :D

if we use wordpress we could add one popular plugins called Post View, with this plugin we could know which article get popular in the site.

With that, though, it becomes more about the SEO than highlighting the writing? What if people buy traffic?

I like the idea of judges (sponsors) picking the winning team. Then, that team votes on which member of their team gets the boot.

The site for a prize idea sounds kinda nifty, though.

for me, I do not know another content buyer, Seo Optimized article is what I need. Perfect Grammar, No Spelling error, good read and unique article are Basic Need for good writer here. For me if I buy a high priced article but could not bring any traffic from search engine, then that not worth of my money because my focus is get many traffic from search engine so i will not give more time and effort to promote my site.

So for me, SEO optimized article is one of a good point to judge the writer.

To know the traffic come from search engine or another sources, like I've said above, we could use Wassup plugins (if we decide to use wordpress platform) to know the resources of traffic.

let me know your opinions guys.

I'll take part as a writer, looks worthwhile and like it could kick off. Great idea KPaul :)

Personally I prefer the idea of using judges rather than SEO tools/plugins. I know Google is a good judge of content but there's no way of knowing if visitors to the site enjoyed reading the article, or whether they came across it because it's popular.

Ok, I've given it some thought. So far we have one sponsor (maybe) and six contestants. Let's run til next Wednesday and say that's the deadline. Next Wednesday we move ahead with whatever we have.

Also, I like the idea of writing the articles in secret then posting them on the Survivor DP thread and having the sponsor (or a judge?) pick which team has the best overall quality.

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest so far!
