Entirely today I guess DP's server has been buggin' out?

It's been online a little but mostly offline for long periods of time. Server response times out a lot...

What's going on? Is it the servers? Maybe could use a nice big reboot. :D
Also, I am seeing a lot of text "UUUUUUUUU" on the top of some of the forum pages. What's that all about?

& Shawn, definitely time to upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin. Don't want to get h4x0r3d. ;)

Yeah I've seen this on other forums.

    It was/is being hacked.

I suggest turning off telnet and other uneeded services.

Let me know if anyone still sees the UUUUUU thing in the header. I think one of the PHP object caches for one of the blades f'ed up, so I just reset the cache.

As far as being hacked, for was not hacked... and as far as turning off telnet, all blades are on non-routable IP address (192.168.*.*), so you can't access *any* services other than web (port 80).... always been that way. :)

it means that no applications can communicate through the ports.

someone mentioned DDosing, which is usually done in telnet.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ddos#Distributed_attack .

So in this case the attack was more than likely some sort of attack at the web servers. As for a firewall helping you not really going to help you if you need to block port 80. Most hardware people use is hardware designed to mitigate attacks. But as shown some attacks are hard to stop. Look at digitalpoint lately and before that webhostingtalk got hit hard by ddos as well.

Nah, was just today. Yesterday morning was coincidental, and something completely unrelated. The network traffic charts for the last 2 weeks look normal except for today (easy to see a DoS attack on network traffic charts).
