I think on the same domain a lot of peoples pages are going to get filtered out for duplicate content. I think if people can't afford a domain name then they don't need to be entering an seo competition.
PM sent I do have a couple of thoughts. I think the keyword should have some value, so the site can be monetized by the contestant during the competition. (added incentive to put more work into it) I also think three months is a good length for the competition, and because of this I think each contestant should supply there own domain and hosting. At least this way, after the competition has ended, the competitor still owns the site, and can still run adsense or whatever on it, and continue to benefit from the work they have put in to it. I think if someone wants to use a blogspot blog as the host, (because its free) and point there new domain to it, Then the blogspot blog must also be a newly registered blog, with no previous posts. Not sure if they were the sort of thoughts you were after, but I thought I would share them with you anyway EDIT: I also think that part of the prize could be... All contestants must give the winner of the competition, a text link from the homepage of the site they entered, for three months. (or the duration of the next competition) (the winner chooses the anchor text.) Cheers James
I have a brand new domain but do not have the site up yet. I can try but from the sound of things you guys would royally kick my ass. But could be a good learning experience
The contest sounds interesting and will give me chance to use my SEO skills that I have learned here at DP. I just signed up.
I think we should put our efforts into something worth while. If everyone willing to do this type thing joined forces to promote a product site for a highly coveted keyword we could all make alot more money that would be generated by this contest.
Linkstrong its a good idea in theory. But I think people are getting grand ideas that will never work. Anyone entering this competition is not going to be an seo expert. It should be seen as a fun thing to try, with the added bonus of a couple of prizes.
I'm not sure if people get this but you will not learn just because you are part of a contest. You can get a website for yourself s and start optimizing it and test stuff... That's how you get better and better. I'm just saying maybe starting on the SEO world on a contest is not ideal but it's surely not impossible.
I think at least a competition will give them focus and something to aim for, I would think its better for beginners than for people already actively making money from SEO.
Thought it was just a fun comp....................21 days and still not a loat happening. why sponsors etc? ppl have put in a couple of hundred and some hosting so lets get cracking - lay down some set rules, the keywords and let WAR commence
I want in! There is a $1 a month host called 3ix you can find them at www.3ix.org let me know the details!
I'm watching this thread for a while and feel like I have to add my 2 cents. We all want to know more and more of SEO. We all want to be No1 on Google. So here is my suggestion - every member of DP registers for Contest Support with $1 fee. After it's all finished - the first 3 top contestants will have an obligation to write about the specific techniques they used to achieve their results. And the management will distribute it to everyone who joined the Contest Support. This will create big prize pool - look how many members we have And everyone supporting it would benefit I'm ready in here with my $1
Sorry, but I'm against this. I'm not joining this contest as a learning process, but to win. And I don't think Im gonna write an ebook later on.
