Let's see... I guess it was 6-7 years ago, because the first programs I was involved with were recommendations to my clients - merchant accounts, hosting, etc. It made my job easier if most clients used the same services, and they wanted my recommendation anyway... so that's how that started. A great little side income!

As for marketing affiliate programs online - I think my first two checks came from Corey Rudl and ClickBank. I havent purchased an SBI package myself, but have worked with others that had them so I have some firsthand experience with them.

Anyway, I believe it was John Reese (back when he had auction training videos) and Corey Rudl (who used to - 4-5 years ago - write a terrific newsletter!) who initially got me interested in affiliate marketing.

    Hey Ms. Terry, (hmm... Lynn!)
You've come a long way. I get inspired reading success stories like this. Is J.K. Rowling your role model?

Well, I have been thinking of doing some Affiliate marketing on/with eBay, or with the gazillion other ones like CJ, ClickBank and what not. As far as I've enquired, most of them I've known, discouraged me on this affiliate marketing thing. I've read an eBook, say 'GoogleCash', don't know who really wrote it. It gives me stats, reading which I dream of a holiday home in the Carribean. Well, is that actually true? Probably there are a few among the thousands who are successful with it, but I don't know if it would work for me. I'm just trying my luck with Adsense at the moment.(yaay! I made $0.44 yesterday) though I get 2000+ unique visitors at www.jhatkaa.com and yet. (Oh my! I'm whining)

Anyway, I really liked your blog, inspiration therapy.. yeah! Alright then, I don't want Shawn to kill me for writing an essay under 'quick reply'. So, I'll leave it here.
    Have fun!

    Regards,
    MaxCage.

What do I look like? A school teacher?

    Gawd... I do, don't I?

    Kidding!

How ironic. I was just reading her biography this morning after reading an interesting snippet on her recent success last night! Are you psychic?!?!? LOL

Yes, I admire her greatly. I have 3 titles that I am working on myself - an aspiring writer with big dreams ;)

    Discouraged you how?

I do use all of those merchants/networks, and with good results. I'm of the belief that ANYone can make it in affiliate marketing... with a little dab of "want to" and plenty of persistence.

GoogleCash is by Chris Carpenter, and to be honest with you is a bit outdated. I used the "GoogleCash Method" myself up until the beginning of this year, and did VERY well with it (profiting $2-3k/month from the get go). However, since Google updated their Affiliate Policy at the beginning of this year (for Adwords), it is a lot more difficult to make that method work.

Basically, it used to be fairly easy to promote affiliate programs via Adwords using a direct affiliate links - sending traffic straight to the merchants. The change to Adwords' policy was that they would only show two ads for any given root domain. So if you had a lot of people promoting a certain affiliate link (samedomain.com/?123 <-- unique affiliate id) then only 2 of them would show at a time. So most people either started losing money (or stopped making money) and quit... or began creating landing pages on their own domains. Landing pages are a great idea, but it puts the extra step in for your traffic... which lowers conversions.

(I didnt mean to ramble on so long about that - sorry)

Adsense is cool! Hey - have you considered using the "images above the leaderboard" method with your Adsense? That was an awesome thread...

Nice site, btw! Do you also promote other affiliate programs, or just Adsense?

LOL! Thank you :) Talk soon!

    Lynn!
What more can I ask? You've just dissected my post into quotes and all the detail. I appreciate the time and effort you've taken.

So, I'd listen to you and start with Affiliate Marketing. I just have Adsense program at the moment. I would have opted for Chris Carpenter's method, nice that you've informed me about it. (I should have been on this earlier, before Google revised their Affiliate Policy) But anyhow, lets be optimistic.

    Thanks alot Ms. Terry, lol.
Its been wonderful to read your post. (I'm getting all mushy and goosebumps, eeks!)
    Have fun!

    Wishes,
    MaxCage.

Yes, I miss the good $$ from that method, myself! Not as easily replaced...

Let me know if there's anything I can help you with in regards to Affiliate Marketing. I've been checking out the posts in that category here at the forum, so I'll probably see you there!

Hi Lynn - I envy you on two points - 1. work from home - I hope to do that if I can make sense of all this stuff! 2. be a contributor - I think it is a bit daunting for some to ask questions when starting out as you can quickly get shot down buy others and we all would like to be able to contribute something useful.

Anyway, I am quite new to this forum but like what I see and hope to match you in these two areas sooner rather than later...

A bit late but ... welcome to the forum, Lynn.

I'm also new here and I can't believe I've only come across DP now.

I love your blog and have already added your feed. I'm one for believing that even the smallest business can/should utilise branding techniques as much as possible - I'll be commenting and trackbacking to you that's for sure :)

    Cheers,
    Martin

    Hi Spark,

Hang around here long enough and I am sure you will accomplish both!!

And when it comes to questions, ask away! That's the best way to learn, IMO ;)

    See you around the forum!
