Hey guys/gals..one questions for yall. I have a good idea (at least I think) for starting up a new website/service that is sports related. Now what I want to know if, how do I find someone to help me brainstorm for ideas for features, monetization, programming, etc..without them taking my idea and running off with it?

I think if the right amount of work was put into this idea, I could definitely do something with it.

Thanks..hope to hear some of your thoughts on this

Are you offering anything in return for the person helping you out or are you expecting them simply to mentor you without any return? (that isnt supposed to be a sarcastic question)

You can use a none disclosure agreement but legally they are as useful as a chocolate teapot for ideas.

Basically you have to either trust them or offer them something to come in on the project which will be too big a draw than running off with the idea

Well I was actually looking for someone to partner up with, I have no experience programming so I would need to find a php programmer. I would be doing the design and would have no problem splitting up the costs/profits with someone. Basically just want to find someone that has done this before to brainstorm with, to even see if its worth the trouble

edit: I just realized I dont know how to spell entrepreneur

What else are you bringing to the table? Experience of web marketing? SEO? Time to do the donkey work?

You need to work on what you are bringing to the table.

We program in .Net rather than PHP so wouldnt be in your target audience

Hmm thats a good question. Im about to start my first real job outside of college and was thinking about doing this as a side project, so Im not too sure how much time I would have to commit to this. I have plenty of experience in the design/marketing side of it..and a little over 1yr SEO experience.

Ive looked around on the net for sites with the same idea as mine and there arent many at all..if any. Now the question is: did I actually come up with something that noone has thought about yet, or that there is no sites like this because its been proved not to work?

Obviously without knowing what the idea it really isnt easy to say.... the probability of no one else in the world having come up with an idea is fairly small but at the same time it is unusual to not find even one clone site even if it is in a neglected/ decaying site if something had previously been launched.

You are somewhat in the catch 22 of, if honest, not offering much other than an unproven idea but your asking for a fair investment from the otherside but then you cannot tell them the idea to get them interested without losing your bargaining chip

Do everything yourself. Learn what you need to do, and outsource the programming bits to RentaCoder/Freelance sites.

absolutely 100000% agree with this post, if you dont learn how to do it all yourself I dont think you will ever get off the ground and start making enough money to go round.

just outsource SPECIFIC tasks that you cant do yourself. Cant afford to? save up... its that simple.

Get something out of the box and build on that is another option.

I can share my experience here.... I have been trying to setup a website for last 6 months and have had two companies working on my project. The first one quit because I am process driven and they could not provide me with plans and dates and the second company is the same they still struggling. But its really me... some companies are great but they are very expensive. I suggest do everything yourself.... at least you good with designing I am good with nothing LOL. I have brought myself a AJAX PHP Beginners guide and have started learning the programming language. Once the website is up and running atleast i would understand what codes mean what?

And yes if you need any help bouncing ideas and functionality of website send me a message I will be happy to help.

    Good Luck

There is also a lot of very poorly coded websites out there.... Thankfully the UK market is starting to see sense now but 3 years ago 75% of our work was to take owner created programming and "fix it", 50% of those it ended up being more expensive than if we had just written the thing from scratch.

If you cant afford a professional you should see how much an amateur will cost you. ;)
